IStock_000002527317XSmall Crystal Pier In PBPacific Beach, San Diego's most popular beach community is located just south La Jolla. It is bounded to the south by Mission Beach , Interstate 5 and Clairemont to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Pacific Beach has miles of shoreline and beaches along the Pacific Ocean to the west and Mission Bay to the South.

In this marvelous coastal community of Pacific Beach, you'll find that the stereotypical ' California Dream ' popularized by the California Beach Boys, alive and well. One of the more fascinating aspects about this beach community is its amazing diversity. It draws its citizens from the world over.

Enjoy this the wonderful look back in musical history that helped popularize all of Southern California Beaches and Pacific Beach "PB" was no exception. For many this became more than a dream, it is now their new California Lifestyle.

Yes, Pacific Beach has become one of America's favorite surfing destinations but it is so much more. It is a beach community that has become a real 'Mecca' for it's night life, known throughout the country and beyond, From it's many coffee houses, nightclubs, and late-night restaurants that are clustered mainly along Garnet Avenue and Mission Boulevard, PB is practically a phenomenon enjoyed by nearly everyone living in San Diego county.

But just a block or two away from all the beach activities provides for the "much quieter" residential community. If beach front living is your preferred style, you will love the ambiance that PB provides with it's casual, friendly, laid-back and eclectic life style. Housing opportunities from affordable condominiums to luxury homes will be sure to satisfy most any taste or budget.

William, Pacific Beach sounds like it has it all - beach, quiet houses and nightlife. Thanks for the Beach Boys.

Hi Gary, Thanks for coming over and commenting. Most purely local posts don't get a lot of attention but The Beach Boys does help some.

When I was little kid growing up, and I heard this song, I couldn't wait to come to California. I bought every record I could get of the Beach Boys and it become my life's desire to live in California.  Alone in my room in my own California Dreamin,  I would  " Turn that music down "  and it was not an infrequent reminder to me growing up. Thankfully with just a few stops along the way, California was to become my home.  I love going to the beach near sunset, turning on the iPod and getting lost in what must be one of God's most magnificent treasures. Sunset on the surf.

Hi Tom, It is a fun place and if you come in the summer months, might be best to pay for parking in a location of your choice. Free parking is taken by all the beach goes, 7 days a week,:-) But I think you will Love it. PB is a real beach town with all the care free attitude that goes with it.

William, I don't know if I ever told you that I attended UCSD for two years before going on to Berkeley.  While I lived in the northern towns like Del Mar I remember Pacific Beach having quite the reputation for parties and fun...and surfing of course.  It sounds even more fun today!

Hi Teri, Whatever time of year you might plan a visit, you will be pleasantly surprised with Pacific beach. A fun place to live or even to visit, the beaches are wonderful. there is a boardwalk that keeps you off the sand unless you want to be there. But  walking, skating ,bicycling, or just sitting watch all the people enjoy the beach is so much fun. Restaurants are plentiful, with a number of hot local hangouts. Any budget or appetite will be satisfied.

Hi William,
I'm partial to the East coast but you sure do make the West coast very attractive.  Good job.

Hi Diane, How about that. So you know all about the area having lived so close by. I will  bet you loved being so close by at UCSD . PB is just at the base of the famous landslide that took place on Soledad Mountain last October . I have lived in San Diego for about 21 years and other then that PB has been cleaned up and remodeled a bit, it hasn't changed all that much. I used to roller blade there but haven't done that in a  couple years now. But a fun place to go anytime.

I'm sure San Diego has changed MUCH since we lived there around 1970, but it was a beautiful place that I'd love to see again.  Your post is very enticing!

Hi William,

What a wonderful post! You know I've probably said this dozens of times but San Diego is one of my favorite places in the world. And as for the Beach Boys, living in So Cal for all my life I remember when they were brand new on the scene in the 60's (my era, lol) they were from the So. Bay, Torrance, Lawndale, etc. Near Kay's neck-of-the-woods.

Thanks for the wonderful information on Pacific Beach and the flash-back.

Hi Lynda, The Beach Boys had a real influence on me as kid growing up. Being from back east ,I could wait to grow up and make my way west. First I headed south and then west, lol. But I made it, finally. Thank you for your wonderful comments. This is my first post for my sponsored community and having done the write up and added my links, I was pleased. Then I saw the right-up was in Pacific Beach as a city and the post is in Pacific Beach as the community. It is not a city so AR will need to fix all these areas. I am surprised they haven't begun but I will advise them again tomorrow.

Hi Joan, I used to live very close to the beach. I moved inland to afford a larger home about 8 years ago. But even inland I am only about 12 minutes due west of the Pacific Ocean. Don't be envious, the cost of living here is spiraling and no end in site.

Hi Cynthia- I would expect that both coasts have their specialness. I love the East as well as the West Coast. But the weather and the visuals here are really compelling. The best things is have both, expensive probably but cool if one can afford it. I always visualized that one day I have an 'Old Victorian' at Yale and my 2nd Home in Hawaii. Best of Both!

Hi Margaret, San Diego county has changed very much over that time. North County added so much density, along route 5 ( Carmel Valley) paved with developments. San Diego downtown has just been totally trnsformed. That is the area you would not even begin to recognize because it is totally different. Over all , San Diego lost a great deal of it's small town feel, even though it was a large city even back then. It has a more Metro Feel now. The beach areas though, other than having matured a bit, are still very much the same.

I'm not a surfer, but I used to have a home on Huntington Beach - right on the sand - and I used to enjoy watching the guys doing spectacular things.  Even watched the championships there.  Thanks for the memories, including great old music!

I have been to Pacific Beach many times and it is wonderful.  Nice post!

Hello Susan, Thank you so much for dropping by and sharing your personal experience of Pacific Beach. There probably isn't one coastal community that doesn't have bragging rights of enjoying the life of surf and sand , sunsets and the wonderful experience of coastal living. As the sponsor for Pacific Beach in Localism, I wanted to be sure that any description would also share the  residual and wonderful music that inspired many to seek out this lifestyle, including myself. In the 60's when the Beach Boys crafted this music,it was enjoyed and reflected the wonderful "surfin" experience of that generation. But it did more. It inspired many across America with a new dream to also share in that experience. The East coast of the United stated had it treasures along the Atlantic, but nothing would compare to the almost magical experience of what the Pacific coast offered. "Go West Young Man" had an all together new meaning and understanding and conveyed a lifestyle that promised a lifetime of happiness. Perhaps exaggerated but it most assuredly did deliver.

The photo is just stunning. Looks absolutely professional. THe video was a lot of fun. Haven't been in California yet, my son spent a few days in San Diego, liked it there very much.

I heard that California is very different from Florida, and that it resembles Georgian part of Black Sea.

Hi Jon, It is a professional photo, I purchased it from iStock. :-) My camera doesn't do night photography all that well. If you like Fla, then you would love San Diego. What we don't get is ht humitidy and the mosquitoes. Nor the cockroaches, lol. I live in Fla for about 15 years so when I finally made the trek put here, it was love at first sight. As for the Georgian part of the black sea, I haven't been there as yet but perhaps one day that will be on the travel agenda. Many thanks for stopping by and glad you enjoyed the video, it is just a feel good video. I played it a couple times today just to to enjoy the sound of it. Upbeat and fun!

Woo Hoo, Now I can go watch the Olympics, at least the last hour and half. Phelps is going for Gold again. Thanks for everything and you of what I am talking about. You are Gary have been so wonderful and I am smiling. I don't feel like writing again tonight. I will pick up my momentum over the weekend. I have 3 hors of website in the morning and then heading Downtown to get that community stuff written, even if I can't post it. Should be fun, a nice brunch, out to the convention center, city hall, shopping district, a couple luxury hi-rises and that will get me started. Sure hope I can download the photos. Camera is near full and haven't used one of them as yet. Got about 3 hours of video. OH, the coolest thing I forget to tell you. Yesterday the 3 or 4 fire engines were in the neighborhood blasting away and a large amount of smoke from a home across the fairway. By the time I thought to get the video, all I could get was a couple fireman walking on a roof. They could have just as easily been birdwatching, lol.  I was so entertained by the fire engines and the noise and commotion, I forget to film it. If I were a newsman, they would surely fire me. LOL

William, love the Beach Boys and of course this is one of my favorite songs...such wonderful memories! I got such a tickle from your comment. I did the same thing. I was videoing Jeff Turner and Rudy from Trulia at the Inman Conference when at the end of the whole thing I noticed that I had not hit the start button. Makes one feel slightly inept...take heart you aren't the only one!

Hi Gena, Wonderful to see you. I surely wish I  could have gone to Inmans. I guess there is always next year, :-) That little Flip thing is nice that it is so small so time after time, it won't turn off. Or as you say , it didn't turn on and if you look to check it and it is, the video is ruined. It surely has it weaknesses. I don't know of another thing that doesn't turn on or off reliably. The music was so fun. Just makes you fell good.
