....It's a public service.

Let me be the first to assure you that if I catch somebody stealing content that was the fruit of my intellectual labor, dressing it up slightly, and reposting it as their own, I will expose their complete and total lack of integrity for the entire world to see.  I will do so in a very prolific fashion, and I will make my efforts plain for everybody to see.  Call it an attack if you like, I call it a retaliation.

Furthermore, I will generate links to the moron that tried to steal my content so that the entire blogosphere can see what I'm talking about, and I will call a dog a dog.  Some people seem to think that the world is all fluffy bunnies and elves dancing in the sunshine, and that these problems will correct themselves.   I happen to know better.

I can tell you what most certainly will correct the problem: If the offending party is sent a very potent and focused message about why his behavior is unacceptable and if the general public further acknowledges that it is never acceptable to steal the intellectual property of another for personal gain.  Sometimes, in order to prove a point, somebody must be taken to task.

I went through basic training, as did so many other AR writers.  So, I can understand first hand the value of "speaking loudly enough so that everybody can hear you." That way, some other poor "uneducated" fool won't make the same mistake.

P.S. the image on this post is property of the United States Air Force and used by permission.  Since your tax dollars pay for their creation, Anybody can use Air Force images so long as it's not a corporate advertisement and the use of the image does not discredit the United States Air Force.  FYI.

I agree, Jonathan.  I think that the "cloak of secrecy" we afford a thief needs to be lifted.

Pardon the stern tone of my message everybody.  I'm getting sick of people saying that we have to play nice with people who steal our hard work and use it for their own gain.

Cool picture, looks like Bob a few years ago.  I guess I won't mess with you either.  I don't want to end up with Jimmy Hoffa.

I totally agree.  When there is proof of wrong doing, shout it to the world.  That is not bad-mouthing, name calling, slander.  That is proof!

The big flap in January was the unfounded accusations which later caused the removal of an AR member for lack of proof for the accusations.

The recent hullabaloo with the Weenie was about differing opinions.  I appreciate the idea of getting along as much as the next person, but I will not become milk toast in order to get along.  Differing opinions is great and I'm all for that.  Calling names and trying to force someone to remove a web site because of differing opinions is not right.

Forcing someone to remove plagiarized material is right.  That is against the law, unethical, and illegal.  Copy the plagiarized page so you have proof and shout it to the world.  If they are not charged, at least their shame will be proclaimed before the community so others who might think they could get by with the same offense will think twice.  Link.  Show the copied content.  Put the offender in stocks in the public square!

Wow!  This is a strange one - fluffy bunnies, balls and dancing elves all in the same thread.

Ahhhh, we should be making the unethical, copyright infringers feel better about themselves. We wouldn't want to hurt their feelings now would we?

P.S. In case your sarcasm meter didn't go off you need to check your batteries.

Jonathon,

You crack me up about the fuzzie bunnies and all, but I agree with you and I love the way a military man spits it out without beating around the bush.  My son is recently back from Iraq and honorably discharged from the army.  He has a direct, albeit colorful way of putting just about everything.

Great post,

Fran

Right on Jonathan!  I know how hard you work to put your own "voice" out there...no one is like you and you deserve the credit for what you do!  Keep on, keepin' on!  Oh, and I like fluffy bunnies too, can you imagine?

Beautiful-

I'm sorry I didn't see this post sooner!

You've got the right idea - the fools who want us to be sensitive and give THIEVES a second chance - ahhhhhhhhhhh,  FORGET IT.

You steal from me, you go down.  Period.

I'm increasingly unimpressed with AR.  I write quality posts and they never get picked up.  It's like I'm talking to myself.  I can talk to myself on my own blog.

The "celebrities" on the other hand, anything they write gets featured, whether it's crap or not.  I've got a business to run, you know?
