Forty years ago today Cheap Thrills the seminal work by Texas artist Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding company was released. This was the album that proved to be the breakout for Janis and sold over a million copies (what would have been multi-platinum by today's standards) and set her on the road to legend. There are so many great songs on this album that you will always get an argument about which is best but I like everything on the record! The cover features artwork by one of the most original and incredibly weird artists of the 60's R. Crumb (check out the documentary; Crumb). Bill Graham used to introduce the band as "Four gentlemen and one Great, Great Broad...Big Brother & the Holding Company!"

Enjoy the clip and buy the CD or download; this is both a compelling recording from the time and timeless at the same time. From one of a long line of interesting musicians from Texas!

Enjoy!

Have you noticed weird things in A|R today, copy and paste working intermittedly - now no taskbar to BOLD or underline, or spell check!!! Oh well, glad you stopped by today and hopefully you can get your technorati up and running. Let me know if I can help.

Russell...

Boy I listened to this a lot (I think :-)!

I wanted to come to your blog to make sure you got this...

Russell...

NO NO, I did not take it that way, I was teasing you!  I have a weird sense of humor :-).

Sorry I didn't call you back but have not been feeling up to par the last couple of days.

Here is what you do, go up to my blog on the contest and the fist tag you see is

beat the heat,

Click on that and it takes you to were all the post tagged with that are, so you can see who is entered, read their post and once you post yours, go and check and make sure it's there.  That's were we find the entries.

You do not have to put Beet the Heat in the title or anywhere else, EXCEPT AS A TAG, beat the heat,,

AND IT MUST BE SEPERATED BY A COMMA BEFORE AND AFTERR SO IT DOES NOT RUN TOGETHER WITH THE OTHER TAGS!

Hope that helps, if not call me back, OK.  It was a pleasure meeting you at the AR gathering, suce a pretty place.  Liz

Oh, man, 1968 wasn't 40 years ago, was it? I still listen to Janis Joplin sometimes. Cheap Thrills is my favorite album of hers, too.
