Don't leave home without it!

I'm sure we all have "kits" that contain various tools, cleaning products, etc.  In addition to the obvious I also carry along a bottle of lite olive oil.  I use this on dry furniture that needs a good oiling, dull hardwood floors, kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, and in the kitchen to polish stainless steel appliances and sinks.  I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this eco-friendly polishing product, other than years ago I gave it a try on a tired looking stainless steel sink and it worked.  For furniture I apply liberally and rub in.  For floors I pour on the floor and mop it in with a waxing mop.  For stainless steel, a small amount on a rag, then buff off with a clean dry cloth.  It not only shines up the stainless but it removes all those finger prints that stainless steel is so fond of collecting.  Give it a try and see if it doesn't work wonders!

This is great.  I have a dull floor, if I tried this, will I be skating?

Great tip! A black sharpie and brown shoe polish are also good -  hides knicks in furniture (not the ones you made!)

Hi All!  Glad you like the tip.  I've been using olive oil for years for just about anything you need an oil for.  Remove eye makeup and moisturize the skin, lubricate squeeky hinges, add to the dogs food for help with dry skin, you name it, you can use it.  I like your idea of including it in gift baskets janeAnne, along with a list of what it can be used for.  I'm going to include it in my first e-newsletter.

Im a little slow on the draw here, but oil also rocks for slate fireplaces that have gotten dull.  Plain water dosen't help at all, but wiping the slate down with oil makes it shine like new!

My mom had taught me to use Mayo on furniture rings - but it's the oil in the mayo thats doing the trick.  I'm all over this one - Tks!!

Hey Terry - Thanks for the great tip!!! My stainless fridge looks gross right now. My kids have fingerprints all over it. (no they're not babies. my 15 year old is always in there)  Anyway, I am going to use that olive oil right now!!

Hi Maureen - thats why I didnt get a stainless fridge, I bought one that looks stainless.  I love the stainless look but when it gets fingerprinted its gross.  I just love telling my son "I told ya so" :-)  They hate theirs for that reason.

Sounds slippery!  But I'm game...I'll try it on my wood floor in the kitchen.  It needs help in the "busy area".

Sounds like Olive Oil may be the new Vinegar!

Terry. i'm glad this was resurrected. I have several things I'd like to try this on. BTW, someone asked is it slippery   Is it on wood floors or does it soak into the wood?

06/20/2007 10:09 AM by Gary Smith, Realtor® (The Michigan Group - Livingston)

Gary - it soaks in just like any other kind of oil would.  No worrys about slippage.

Any recommended brands and/or stores?  I'm not the grocery shopper in the fam...

Jeff - I use whatever is the least expensive.  And buy only when my local grocery store has a buy one get one free.  Olive oil is not cheap, but its very effective and totally planet friendly.

Karen - thankx for commenting.  Hope you enjoy the new found uses for olive oil.
