I have a confession to make. There are two spiders living in my guest bathtub and they've been there for weeks. I've grown kind of fond of them and at this point, don't have any desire to flush them away. However, that doesn't mean that I have any desire to pick them up for relocation purposes, either, so... there they spiderstay. In my guest bathtub (that no one uses, don't worry).

Not that I keep an 24/7 eye on them, but as far as I can tell, they never leave the confines of the tub. How on earth do they survive??

One of those eternal mysteries... or not? Anyone have an answer for me?

everything- they live in the drains and live off everything which ended up down the drain up to the trap-usiallu an s or p trap- depending on the age of the home.

Just my opinion.

Cleaning out the drain and spraying it with an indoor/outdoor bug spray usually controls it for up to 30 days at a time.

Start with 1/4 cup of bleach and 1 gallon of warm water. They spray the drain itself- we have a home in VT and we do this every month and have not seen a spider since. Unless you mention the dead ones.

oh no!!! I love animals, but I must say you have a bigger heart than me! Those babies would be gone by now! What if one (or both) get pregnant!!! Thats lots of baby spiders to contain! I have no idea what they eat, maybe they arent eating? Usually the make a web and wait for something to get caught in it, right?

We went to look at a new (old, it was built last year) construction to list with my son and asisstant and my son went up to the side door to see if he could find the key where the builder said they had left it!! Well my son got quite the surprise, he came INCHES from walking into a huge Garden Spider web, WITH the Garden Spider and her babies cocoon (or whatever it is they call it) in it! If you dont know know what it looks like, check this out!

Can you imagine finding two of THOSE in your tub?!!? Yuckkkkky, I cant even look at it anymore.

Good day, and good luck with the spiders!

Happy selling!

Personally, I don't kill spiders...I am scared to death of them.  I thought they ate bugs, and I am sure you don't have a bunch of little bugs flying around in your guest bath.

Nope - no bugs in the bathroom... although maybe that's cause I have my pet spiders!

Terri - my pet spiders are little harmless-looking things - nothing like that monster! When I lived in the South, I saw those guys everywhere... yikes!

Bill - thanks for the tip! As soon as I find a new home for my friends, I shall do that.

I'm not sure I would want to keep spiders as "house pets"  lol   I usually get rid of them right away.

I think spiders eat other bugs. So, when the guest bugs go to take a bath in your guest tub, your spiders get them and have them for dinner.

I think that maybe they snack on dead skin but that is only my guess.

Oh my, I guess there may occasionally be other guests for them to eat. I have a huge brown spider in my garage that I think has gotten fat off spilled dog food!

Kathy - Great title! Now if we can just think of some relevant content, we'll be all set!

Celeste - They may be relocating today... I'm getting the house ready to go on the market, so it's probably time for them to move.

Spiders come up the drain looking for water. Poor sanitation is one reason for spider. Flies, ants, and cockroaches also attract spiders. Dont stack wood around your house. Dust your house often, vacuum, and use recommended pesticides to prevent spiders.

Hi Jennifer, unless I invite them, all bugs and spiders are trespassing, and ususally "kilt" - it's the law of the west! Good luck in finding them a new home, and selling yours!

Jennifer, whatever your bathroom spiders are eating, you'll find their tiny carcasses beneath their webs.  It could be something as simple as gnats (a nice snack for a spider), and their desicated carcasses are almost invisible to the naked eye.

Look beneath their webs... I think you'll find that "dust" is the remains of their lunch.

Alan - Hmmmmmm... sounds delightful... but I don't see any webs! However, if I ever do use this bathtub, I will certainly be sure to rinse it out first!

Jennifer,  I think I would work on a relocation package for your spiders if I were you.  I am sure you could find another home that would accommodate them comfortably.
