Located just 3.5 miles from Washington, D.C., Cherrydale is a small community of predominately small, well maintained, single family homes. Cherrydale got its name from Dorsey Donaldson, who was inspired by the large cherry orchards around the area - today, only a few of the original cherry orchards survived, and most are on private property. It is centered on the intersection known as the Five Points consisting of Quincy Street, Military Road, and Old Dominion Road, which is intersected by Lee Highway.
The small town neighborhood feel of Cherrydale, has homes from as early as the Civil War. According to the 1980 Census, about 35% of the homes were built before 1940. The neighborhood has the following house styles: 2-story Farm, colonial, bungalows, and more. Many have been renovated inside to keep up with growing demands.
