Girl Scout House, Bryan Texas

By
Real Estate Agent with BCR Realtors 262359

Located at 2512 Roundtree Dr. in Bryan, Texas ....is the local Girl Scout house. The area council for local girls is The Bluebonnet Council. This building is located on the old Municipal lake just off College Ave. and adjoins Williamson park a local city park. The scout house is  about halfway from downtown Bryan  and Texas A&M University in College Station. This is a handsome rock structure that was constructed in the 1930's.  According to my Dad my grandfather helped in the construction of the building. My wife and I were very active in Girl Scouts in the 90's and recently she decided to volunteer again. Sometimes it is hard to keep away from a good thing like scouting.

Have a very prosperous and safe Week!

Trey, scouting of all kinds (boy and girl) has always been good in our world. From your Eagle scout friend in Big D  : )

Trey, you did a great job with this picture.  It is better than the one I took of it a while back.  I never realized that it had been around that long.  I remember spending time there as a girl scout.  I'm glad I got to meet your wife the other day.  She seems really nice - even more so if she is doing volunteer work with the girl scouts.

Sondra

We were both very heavy into Girl scouting at one time. It was rewarding.

Hi Trey ----- Do you remember me from the closing of my Father's shop and office building?.We have moved to Bryan now and I run by the Girl Scout every day on my morning constitutional.I was wondering Trey if you would be interested in having lunch with my sister and I some day soon to discuss the possibilty of locating me a studio building? I look forward to seeing you again. You seem like an infinitely cool guy.All Best Bill Haveron

Hi Trey... what I like most about scouting is that it preserves traditional values in a time when those values seem to get lost in the shuffle of a busier world.  These organizations do a lot of good work.

Hi Trey Thurmond,

I am curious about the following:

Is there a copper Girl Scout symbol on the wall of the scout house?

My momma was a scout mom (leader?) in the late 40's and my dad

made a relief sculpture of the Girl Scout emblem on the wall of the

scouthouse. I believe it is the same building in your photo. Dad was

a professor in the Architecture Dept. at A.& M.

We lived in Bryan until 1952.

Just curious!

Thanks,

Hal Moseley Jr.

I, too, grew up in College Station and spent many days in Girl Scout activities in the house.  I would love to talk to anyone who might have some historical information, as my daughter's current troop is looking into the possibility of applying for historical landmark status for the GS House.

Mr. Moseley -- I believe the copper sculpture is on the wall.  I will be sure to check next week!

Thank you,
