You didn't think it would be that easy did you? What a shame to see one of my favorite destinations as a child reduced to this level.

It doesn't seem like it was all that long ago that "mystery pic" was a happy place for children to visit here in Tacoma.  At one time this entrance led to a walking trail that transported the young visitors into some of childhood's best loved stories.

Now due to age, neglect and vandalism, Humpty Dumpty, Jack Sprat, his wife, and a host of other children storytime favorites no longer live here.

If you are a local, I've already given you far too many hints and I'm sure you've guessed it by now.  But just for fun, let's leave this out there for folks not familiar Tacoma to guess.

If you get it right, I'll give you a gold star! :-)

Brett!  That is crazy!  I probably would have never remembered that for the rest of my life if it wasn't for this post.  I remember going there a few times when I was a kid.  I can't remember the name of it though.

Brett, I was over on Localism doing some browsing and this caught my eye! Of course I know where this is Never, Never Land - at Point Defiance. Are you kidding me - that is so sad. I remember spending hours and hours there as a kid with my 3 sisters!! Wow!! this just makes my heart hurt!!

Hi Brett,

You dont know me .. but I feel like we're almost kin in regard to reading your blog about a place we shared/adored as kids. As a child I grew up in Auburn/Puyallup area. I frequented Never Never Land ... with my father and 2 older sisters. Never Never Land had such a deep and profound effect on my life .... ironically I would grow up to become a sculptor and childrens muralist here in Southrn California!

Those visits there left a deep and lasting impression on my spirit and I sat down today to investigate what's happend with that place I remember so well. Obviously I'm saddened at the news ... but also have a sense of spirit that I would love to search into the matter of its restoration. I told my wife if there was anything I could do to help put Never Never Land back on the map as a place of wonderment for children again ... I would be completely interested.

Thanks for sharing ... I hope this finds you and I've not written in vain!
