After 29 years of the Bausch & Lomb Championships being held at the Amelia Island Plantation, both the tournament sponsor and location will now change. In 2009 the championships will be held at the Sawgrass Country Club (Ponte Vedra, FL) and will be sponsored by the Jacksonville-based MPS group. An easy drive from Amelia Island, the beauty and sereneness of the Plantation site will be hard to duplicate.
The new Sawgrass event will be similar to the Bausch& Lomb Championships, however it will have a lower WTA tournament rating with an estimated purse valued at approximately 50% of that for the Baush & Lomb.
