Searcy Arkansas makes the news but not in a good way this time.

The TV and newspapers are full of reports of the crime that took place in Little Rock Wednesday.  A lone gunman entered the Arkansas Democratic headquarters and shot the chairman, Bill Swatney, 48, as he was in his office.  No discussion, no real altercation, just sudden death.

The man who killed him was from our town of Searcy and lived on one of our streets called Janet Lane.    I've seen him a few times but didn't actually know him.  He is also now dead, gunned down as he led a chase for several minutes. The news said he'd lived with his parents who are deceased and he was a single man, never married.

The reasons why it happened may never be known for sure but the reporters will make a determined effort and I applaud them in their efforts to find out why a man suddenly snaps and does a thing like this.

Barbara, such a terrible tragedy. These things are hard to explain, and him coming from Searcy has nothing to do with what was inside of him. Searcy is a great place.

Barbara - I'm sorry to hear about this.  It reminds me of a similar incidence nearby in Kirkwood, MO.  Somebody snapped...  How sad...

As soon as I read about where the guy was from I thought of you!  Normally Searcy is not in the national news!  Actually I am sitting in Washington DC and hear about Searcy.

Gary, it is tragic.  For someone to evidently snap and do such a horrid thing is mind -boggling.  They say he left a will in his house so evidently he didn't plan to come back.

Debi, thanks for letting me know you've shared the feeling.

Dick, you are in the big time!!  Washington DC.  Are you working with the top bloggers there?

If only we could read people's minds. After Columbine the school my kids attended wanted to install cameras all over. I didn't really uderstand - a camera can't help determine what somebody is thinking!

Carol, you're right. Cameras would only help find the killers, I guess.  The neighbors all say this was a nice man.

Michael, it is a mystery.  Perhaps he'd suspected something in himself.  He had numerous guns in his house.

Barbara,

It was very sad, Bill Gwatney was a really nice guy.  When he was in college he worked at the dealership and I bought a corvette from him.  Really nice guy.  I feel so sorry for all the families.

Mary, sounds as if everyone really did like him.  Sad story for sure.
