My mother always taught me to try to learn from someone else's mistakes and stop reinventing the wheel.

We are all being deluged with emails about the Acai berry and these free samples - just pay postage.  Okay, one dummy, step up to plate.

Naive and trusting, I ordered my one week free sample for $3.99 hoping to see a wonderful difference in my life and go on to a lifetime supply of this fountain of youth and health.

I took the week's supply...felt no different...and said "oh well...I've done worse things with $3.99."

I know you're waiting for the other show to hit the ground and duck...here it comes!

I get a package in the mail with a bottle of 60 pills.  I go on line and look at my credit card and they have charged my card an additional $74.99!!!!!!

First I called the c/c company and am disputing the charge but I know I will lose.  I contacted Performance Products USA at acai.performanceproductsusa.com and was refered to their webpage buried among millions with a click on accept terms which has a negative marketing plan and they will continue to hit my card for $74.99 until I opt out of the program.

They also refuse to take it back "unopened" and could care less about anything I try to do.  Because of their terms, no matter how well they hid them on their website and how unethical opt out programs are, the credit company will deny my dispute.

So, do your friends and associates and family members a HUGE favor...copy and send them this information so they do not fall into the same trap I did...let them learn their lessons the cheap and easy way...my lesson was far too expensive.

And by forwarding this to all who will listen, you will be helping me get the word out to these scam artists, that we are not going to take this entrapment lying down.  Send to everyone you know....PLEASE?

I have had this same problem with a credit card company and a real estate website.

Trey, the only way to stop these kinds or practices is to get this information around to everyone you can think of and ask them to forward it to their friends...

If we can't get the law behind us to stop these practices, we can stop purchasing from these companies and maybe they will get the message...honesty is the best policy!

Wow, you really have to be careful. There are so many websites that are not legitimate.

You might be surprised about your credit card company.

I had a similar experience with my cell phone. I need a phone to make and receive phone calls. I don't need it to order coffee from Starbucks, start the air conditoner 30 minutes before I get home, wake me up in the morning, tell me when Will & Grace is on, receive text messages from people I don't know and don't want to know, or anything else like that.

So I got a new cell phone last year. About 30 days after it went operational, I got a text message. I tried clicking on "Delete" but it wouldn't work. So I clicked on clicked on "View." The mere act of clicking on "View" meant that I must want everything they had to offer me, for only $49.99 a month, charged automatically to my cell phone bill which was automatically paid by my credit card.

Uh, no.

I don't have anything set up for automatic payment anymore. I've gone back to controling my finances and accounts rather than letting others have control of them.

The phone company didn't want to refund the fee since I had agreed to all that crap when I signed their two-year service contract.

Uh, no.

My credit card company did go to bat for me and I got the fee refunded

Fortunately, my phone company was eaten by another phone company, although I suspect all the phone companies are the same.
