The DAY and the LIFE of a REO Specialist

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with CIDER Properties

It has been soooo HOT in Texas that I have found it hard to dress comfortable and continue to maintain my professionalism.  I always dress professionally when I have a closing or an appointment with clients or customers but because I specialize in foreclosures, I dress comfortable and causal to protect myself.

Some of the homes that I have been in would be considered a health hazard to most.  I have been in some of the NASTIEST houses.  I have been bitten by fleas, attacked by mosquitoes and slapped in the face by some of the most offensive odors.  Did I mention mold and other dangerous inhalants?  Let's not forget the homes that should be condemned or torn down because they have been neglected for so long.  (I think I might need to purchase some more life insurance.)  I always have a pair of jeans, a long sleeve shirt and boots in my vehicle.

I've even had to purchase a second vehicle to keep from tearing up my Lexus SUV.  It's amazing to me that it still runs because I have been to some very rural areas of East Texas w/ dirt roads and/or pot holes the size of the moon and/or weeds as tall as my car.

So if you see your REALTOR®/REALTIST® very casual or with the appearance of being on summer break, don't judge me. . . . . I have been evaluating the next RED HOT DEAL of the WEEK!

Aren't the houses with flies almost the worst??  Every critters loves biting me and I always get so many bites.  I've also learned to dress casually.  I have a closet of suits that never get to be worn.

You are a pro if you have invested in the REO mobile! Mine is a true urban assult vehilce, flea spray overalls, rubber boots, masks, anti bacterial spray....my wife won't get near it and makes me leave it at the office...

Greatest foreclosure experience ever, went to re-key a house popped the door and got attacked by chickens!!! Yes Chickens, the neighbor ran over and started yelling at me for startling his poultry and threatened me if I hurt them. Told him the deal and he informed me he broke into the empty house to "coop my birds, cuz they were driven the neighbors crazy".

Ah the foreclosures never a dull moment.

Stay safe.

Stephen,

I've never encountered chickens in my quest to do a BPO but I have seen a horse on a HUD property that was left behind.

I learned real quick that a suit and heels don't mix well with REOs.

Donna,

I am happy to know that someone else can relate to my concerns about dressing down for work.  I think we need T-shirts!
