Q: I've been thinking of selling my house, should I put it on the market now or should I wait another year? Will home prices continue to decline or will they start climbing next year?
A: With so many uncertainties surrounding us, it's no surprise why so many potential home sellers are asking themselves this question. The short and simple answer is there is no way to know the answer to this frequently asked question. Because no one can predict the future, it's hard to say for sure whether next summer will actually be a better time. Beware of those who so firmly tell you that home prices will begin to rise next year. That's only a prediction (which we all make at one point or another). The fact is, things could continue in their current state for another year, or two or not. Even the media who tends to think they have the answers, they don't.
What we do know for sure is that market conditions vary from place to place and neighborhood to neighborhood. Another fact we also know for sure is that "life happens", people get married, they get divorced, they have more kids, they die, they acquire more toys, they relocate for a new job, etc., etc., etc....and as long as "life happens", Real Estate Sales will ALSO happen!
Your decision to sell now as opposed to next summer should depend on the market conditions in your neighborhood and the reason behind you wanting to sell.
