I think most of us have seen pine cones. These pretrified cones found at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History are amazing. I can not imagine how big the trees would have been to have cones like these. The Museum can be found downtown at the National Mall. There is something for everyone to see at the National Mall from space to plants. Plan a few days to see all of the sites.

Julie, these are amazing and I must confess that after living four hours away from Washington, DC for the last 21 years, I haven't been to the Smithsonian Museum yet. Hopefully when things settle down with the girls and school we can get to DC.

Debbie- We could have spent several days seeing all the sites on the mall. We ran for 2 days trying.
