Fay

Oh no- here it comes! Tropical Storm Fay is predicted to become a hurricane today. It could reach the U.S. by Thursday.  Dr. Jeff Master's Wunder Blog says the storm may become a Category 1-2 by tonight.  Living on the Emerald Coast, in Destin Florida, past pre-hurricane flutters are rushing back.  "We should get ready now!" I tell my husband.  "Do we have extra gas? Cat litter? Wine? Tranquilizer for Micah?"  (Michah is one of my three cats. He meows every ten seconds during our evacuation trips to Atlanta or Huntsville.)  I am anticipating watching the Weather Channel every hour for an update, and checking the National Hurricane Center for the projected path. Wish us all luck!

It's Wendy!

It seems as if nature is always teaching us that we're not really in charge -- hurricanes that destroy centuries of civilization, earthquakes that create tsunamis, etc.     Reminds us that we need to take each day and respect what it delivers.

Li - You are right. Bigger forces than us. Life stops for nature.

Hey, Wendy. I hope that it does not become a class 1, but I do hope for the rain. We all need it so much. Thanks and stay safe, Jim

Hold on tight if the wids start blowing strong.  I hope it will be a mild year for FL & TX.  We got lucky with the one that just can through here.

Jim &  Maria -  Thank you.  I hope it fizzles, too.

David - Will do.  I don't want to feel like a refuge again.

Hey, you think you're worried, my daughter is in the Caymans this week! Supposed to fly home tomorrow. I'm working very hard at not worrying about it.

I don't mind mild rain storms. I am glad that up here in New England we don't have as much worry about hurricanes, but you don't have much worry about winter.

Lori-  I am from Connecticut originally. I'd rather have a blizzard than a hurricane any dayl  Almost every time I go up to visit my family I get stuck in one.

Wendy...

Preparation is the key! Pay attention to alerts, and DON'T wait until the last minute to evacuate. If there's one thing we have learned, these storms can be devastating.

Roland - Will do. It seems heading to south & central Florida now.  Can change direction at any time. If it hits more open water, it usually intensifies. Just posted new blog entry,  Are Your Computers Safe from Hurricanes?
