On my last model home project, I was asked to keep "green" in mind.  It was difficult due to the low budget, but I managed to find some items made of sustainable wood, recyled rubber, etc. - I even purchased used books (now, that's recycling!)!  It's hard to find cost-friendly earth-friendly items, other than used furniture!  So I'm pleased to share this resource with my Staging friends:

One of my favorite green decor resources is the Viva Terra catalog:  www.vivaterra.com.  Recycled glass, metal, and plastics go into good-looking wine glasses, sculpture and outdoor rugs.  You can find inspirational pieces such as these stone cairn candleholders:

These are great...but how about boulder-sized pillows to further the theme?

The embroidered Suzani collection, of 100% organic material could also be an inspiration:

The same fabric also covers two bench sizes, one of which makes a great coffee table.

The catalog also sponsors a blog at www.ecosalon.com, which covers health, lifestyle, fashion...Enjoy!

P.S.  If green is the new black, what does that say about my all-black wardrobe?  ;D - Julie

I'll bet your all black wardrobe is green too. Wear only cotton that can be reused by others. Going green is truly an intersting and fun challenge.

thanks for the info. In AZ, if builders are not building LEED certified homes, they are not selling versus the competition

Thanks All for your comments. This is a learning process, in fact, a whole new vocabulary. We haveto know what questions to ask. Who knew about low VOCs three years ago? Julie

If you`re looking for green accessories with more of a contemporary, modern feeling, instead of the ethnic or haute-hippy feeling that Vivaterra`s offerings give, try Vivavi.com. They have a nicely edited collection of offerings with information about the designers and what makes the items sustainable, and the prices for the accessories aren`t astronomical.

Also: don`t forget local crafts councils and furnituremakers, and local antique and vintage shops! Reuse is one of the 3R`s for a reason, and locally made items have a lower carbon footprint because they haven`t been shipped from halfway around the world.

The boulder pillows are great. I like the idea of a product not only being made from green material but also looking organic aesthetically.

Aloha Julia, I love, love, love the felt "stones"! I actually used them in my last pillow blog along with some pillow penguins. I would love to see them in a meditation room with maybe a water feature and a potted dwarf pine. I also love the "Cairn" Candlesticks very cool and a great gift for hiking and mountain climbing enthusiasts. Thanks for sharing. Peace,
