Wow...had the greatest Daddy kid day ever!!! Very simple, but totally what the Bettag family and the rest of America seems to be missing nowadays. Today the entire family went to church first thing in the am. Thereafter, I gave mom the morning off. She went out to eat by herself and we had a quick breakfast. I had my 9 year old babysit the 7, 5, 3, and 1 year old while I had a business call. He watched them in the house while I had my business call on my cellphone in the driveway.
AFTERWORDS, I took the 9, 7, 5 and 3 year old on a bike ride. We rode our bikes 15 miles round trip today. We went from rural Saint Charles to downtown Saint Charles. My 5 year old rode her bike in the heat all 15 miles. We stopped at Dairy Queen after 8 miles. There were Mr. Misty Freezes. Shakes, Ice Cream Cones and Blizzards.
My kids were on fumes after all was said and done. But they loved it. Next time we're going to go to mass during a weekday and thereafter do the 15 mile bike ride and go out for breakfast. They can't wait.
We came home and I cooked 2 beer can chickens, had caprese tomatoes and fresh corn on the cob. Finally we had family night watching a favorite Walt Disney movie for the family and kids. Let's just say that I'm still their hero....
We can't wait for next weekend. Should be a great campout in the backyard in a tent....Lot's of fun in store for the Bettag kids.
I think of John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy...." The phrase is "A simple kinda life never did me no harm...." Isn't the simple life where the pure joy is. Lots of tightening on the bonds of the family.
