Newark Delaware Mayor Vance Funk told The News Journal this week that the University of Delaware has placed a bid on the soon to be closed Chrysler Plant.

Newark Delaware Chrysler Plant

The Chrysler plant is located on 244 acres just across the street from the U of D Sports complex and the closing will mean the loss of 1,100 good paying jobs.  The City of Newark currently collect $360,000 in taxes from the plant (so much for unfair tax breaks for big business)

Rumor has it the University would use the land to grow its enrollment and build a new football stadium.

There was at least one more bidder according to reports, Pettinaro Enterprises who is a major player in the development of the Wilmington Riverfront.

I can not see the University not coming out on top of this purchase, it really is a one of a kind property.
