Highlands County Real Estate - Hurricane Fay is on the way!!!

As Hurricane Fay appears to be closing in on Florida, with Highlands County receiving the bad side of the storm if the forecast is not going to change once again, we are calling our absentee owners today to let them know we will remove all signage and make sure flower pots, trashcans etc. will be stored inside the homes.

The forecast this morning had Hurricane Fay make landfall as a Category1 somewhere in the Naples area. Actually, this varies, depending on which news channel one watches. To us folks in Highlands County it probably won't make much difference; we're gonna get a lot of rain either way.

We do not have accurate information about neighboring counties, but schools in Highlands County will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, August 19, 2008. I have posted a complete list of Hurricane Shelters in Highlands County earlier this summer. Following is a list of radio stations for the area:

I hare hurricanes or major storms of any sorts. A very interesting scenario.... in Atlanta we start to get loads of calls each time a storm moves through Florida. People all of a suddedn want to move to safety. In the past, the phones start to ring off the hook. I wonder if it will be the same this year.

I lived through all three hurricanes in 2004. I wouldn't live along the coast but I feel safe living in Highlands County. Yes, we get flash floods, very heavy winds and we have trees up rooted. We did have trailers torn apart and many homes have been missing a lot of shingles. We were without power for quite some time. I'm not scared. I feel safe in Highlands County.

Fay was never a Hurricane. The media thought it could become one but the winds never got high enough nor did the eye quite develop as a true hurricane does.

I know but it sounds a lot more dramatic when it's called Hurricane instead of just "Tropical Storm".
