I get inquiries frequently, as a matter of fact, I get requests, requests to write on different topics..for me its my favorite way to write.  I feel like I am writing for many..many who want to know and are afraid to ask.  Some who are intimated and some so new.

I talk with Rainers alot..yes I pick up the phone and shoot the breeze, often time in ends up in a request for a blog post other times they talk to me in how they feel about the rain!

Sometimes I hear they are uncomfortable...unappreciated...and nervous to write.

My response....just write...write what comes to you...not everyone will like you...not everyone will read you but embrace the people that do!

With over a 100,000 people on this site..understand you will have your critics.

As I go through posts I shake my head..we got the teachers..we got the pro's, we got the opinionated and we got the critics..sometimes very harsh critics.

Critics who are so seasoned in real estate...who are experts in their fields sometimes they forget they are dealing with people.

Everyday people like you or I and that would include a potential buyer or seller.

Those same critics who complain about the FREE network we are so blessed to have..you know the same network which gives us outside blogs for FREE and the power of some very strong SEO.

It does not take rocket science to figure out that there are a variety of levels right here on the rain just like our offices and our Boards

I have to wonder, are the critics that gutsy to say it to people's face or are they safe because of the keyboard.  Probably not..the keyboard gives some people a new sense of strength...to bully...to criticize and most of all look foolish.

And I have to ask, while a potential customer is reading what do you think they are seeing?

Complaining....Criticism....and Is it going to be a challenge to work with you?  Do I want them to have my business?  Will they be easy to deal with?

If you are helpful on the network, do you think it matters?  It does..believe you me...just like the way you post...the way you comment and the way you interract..it matters and matters a lot.

Online behavior..maybe some should study an ettiquette book.

Last night while checking my email its the same routine, my website has inquiries...selling a home.

not one...not 2 but 3.  Does this happen to you?

I have learned so much from the rain, I think I can call myself a seasoned agent, a respectable trainer but most of all a people lover.

I see...I know...we are not all alike...with our interests, with our thoughts and our writing much like a buyer and seller.

I can and do appreciate the differences and so does the public.  It gives them choices...variety and the right person to provide a service they truly need.

If you want to appeal to the masses, forget about the critics and write what fancies you, what interests you...because like minds will follow and so will buyers and sellers.

I don't always write about real estate and that won't change. For me that is what Localism is for.  People want to get to know you before they do business with you.  People want to see if you have the traits for an awesome working relationship.

Some of my most popular posts are non-real estate related..I say most popular because these are the posts that the outsider looking in responds too.  Its these same posts that fill up my email from people relating to the same life experiences..it could very well be home seller one, two and three!

So the next time you decide to put a post up, ask yourself this question.  How much business have I gotten from writing my blogs and what triggered people to contact me? How many referrals were happily handed to me by someone or several on the network?   Do you ask?

Why did you select me?

I do..warmth..genuine..and informative seems to be the common words and it's funny, I write about real estate training, my life experiences and the people I meet.

We all use Activerain for different reasons and because its not to your liking..well Go ahead get critical!

I love the recipes and the jokes..it reminds people you are real...and you put your pants on the same way as everyone else and if I don't like something...I either get into the conversation and debate professionally...or simply..most politely say next!  It's that simple.

So don't let it shake you up!  Just write and remember in our industry criticism is not uncommon!   It's Competition....critics spell success even on the Activerain Network.

You said, "If you want to appeal to the masses, forget about the critics and write what fancies you, what interests you...because like minds will follow and so will buyers and sellers."

Bravo, not everyone likes the same thing, they will find who they are most comfortable with and trust will build. Lots of fish in the sea. rain.

Midori, People are different and write about different issues. Readers are different and read about diffrent issues. But when it comes to selecting someone to represent them they will not select some writer that is offensive and rude. Great Post.

Wow...the timing of your blog is perfect! I just asked my husband to review my first blog before i post it. I'm sooo nervous! I'm just getting started on AR and can't wait to see what all i can learn to improve my business and myself. Thanks for taking the time to write such a great blog and to help me and others feel more confident about posting!

post cardHi Midori, I enjoyed reading your post and certainly agree with your views.  For the most part "Active Rainers" are professional people who approach their work as you would expect a professional to do so.... and you can sense their professionalism in the manner in which they respond to posts.  Professionals do not always agree... and this is good!  Disagreement often promotes diologue and diologue generally results in solutions.

Beyond this, even the "critics" serve a purpose.  Sometimes they have a point.. and sometimes they have a point you may not agree with.  Either way, you can always learn something from what they say... it may even get you thinking a little more.

Hi Missy-you are so right!  To me we have to build rapport and remember why we write here in the first place.  The complaints on the network is really getting old! :0

Jon-Exactly my mind got working after reading a couple of posts and that is why I wrote this post.  The bottom line we are all at different levels..with knowledge..with experience and with appreciation.  I don't think I would enjoy this network if all that was posted was real estate.  I also think we would lose some potential buyers and sellers.  Some think that Activerain is a joke and that is ok but we see more and more members joining and wanting to learn. When I look at my subscribers in various places...and see the number of buyers and sellers contacting me...it tells me I am doing something right.

On top of that I don't appreciate people wanting to regulate this network so its nothing but a bunch of listings and real estate information.  To me the network is amazing...I am a better REALTOR because of it...I am a better Trainer because of it and truthfully my life is very enriched all because of activerain...hey maybe another blog post! :)

Midori, Can you ever remember a time where we didn't have the "content critics" on AR? I can't. Same stuff different day. Personally I think everybody just needs to write about......ME!!! OK maybe not. How about we just write about what we want as long as it is respectful of others. That's not too hard is it?

Broker Bryant-I don't remember all of this arguments in the early days..maybe because we could admit we were learning and just getting better everyday.  I am really sick of hearing about it..to each his own..

Midori: LOVE the line: "...because like minds will follow..."  That is my humble theory of blogging. I write about things from MY perspective, and certainly not always about real estate. I think it's as important for potential buyers and sellers to get to know who I am as a person as it is for them to know how much I know about real estate.

Well, I love to write anything and everything...and one thing is for certain...I don't mind the opinions...it's the opinionated rude ones that I can do without.

Kim-well I believe it is true..all parts of life..it seems that like minds will follow. Have you ever met someone and felt like its just so right..you know you are supposed to meet?  Well it happens to me often and usually after talking with them..many commonalities.

Sally-I love the opinionated ones too but I would recatorgorize the rude ones..On the most part its pleasant but sometimes..I get sick of the griping of the content.  People complain about the content..but waste a post about it go figure..

Well Done again Midori!

You are correct- so often newcomers are nervous, fearful, or apprehensive about expressing themselves in written form.  But with practice, all will and do improve.

The future is here and some people don't get it.  If we want to sell real estate, mortgages, or even training, we need the power of the internet behind us.

The greatest country the world has ever known came about because men and women criticized their government.

Allison-I just wish sometimes folks on the network would be more open minded and not so quick to jump down someone's throat because they are new.  Sometimes the rain can be brutal.

What a great blog.  Because I am fairly new to AR, I don't want to be criticized by those who are more experienced in blogging and SEO.  I am just looking to build relationships and learn how to get better.

I don't mind when someone criticizes what I say and has an honest debate.  If we have opinions we have to expect that others may not agree.  That's ok because different strokes for different folks make the world go round. It is when they get rude that it crosses the line. Nicely said and great encouragement for new bloggers.
