The real estate industry changes with every new cycle, and sometimes even sooner. The good news is that if you pay attention and are willing to learn from your mistakes or those of others, you will gain a new understanding and be able to take advantage of great opportunities.

You can become the Brock Lesnar of real estate.

It’s the new reality of real estate. Mortgage companies want to see that buyers have a good downpayment, a stable income - and a paper trail for proof. It’s not commonplace anymore for a seller to receive multiple offers on their house. Homeowners across the United States should not expect year after year of double-digit appreciation.

Moderation is the buzz word and caution seems to be a guiding principle.

Real estate professionals have been given a breather. They have been able to take a step back and evaluate their business model. They are looking to see what is bringing in the best results for their business; hence, their clients.

If real estate agents view the practice of real estate as an entrepreneurial endeavor, they are giving themselves a talking-to and taking time to build up new skills. They are evaluating their foundation honestly and seeing if they’ve got any cracks that need to be examined.

It’s what they call transparency and it starts with a self-assessment.

Great point Rebecca. Thanks for sharing. BTW, Brock Lesnar is the man! And I used to think that fake wrestlers couldn't really fight :-)

I had that conception too, Peter. Than I saw his first MMA fight where he needed to perfect his technical skills on the ground and lost against Frank, but really beat him up until then.  This last fight was like, "wow", this guys got skills.  Guess it's best not to judge a book by his cover, newbie doesn't have to mean that you won't be a success.

Rebecca, for us it is not a big change because we never did have the multiple offer situation or the double digit appreciation.  I am learning there is something to be said for being a tortoise though.

Rebecca,

Yes, as any business you need a plan to execute. A large venture capitalist said, I like to see your business plan and if it doesn't work what is next? The answer is a new adjusted impervise plan. You must change, adjust and react to all stimulus. That is what I call a successful person.

Rebecca-

..it is pretty simple. The numbers are staggering:500,000 Realtors made no money last year.

Does this mean quit?

For some, yes.

For the rest, stop doing the same thing. Just turn it upside down!

Marchel- Between the classes you take to further your education, your web master work, broker of your own office and blogger to boot, I would hardly call you a tortoise my friend.

Danny, Christina, and Freddy-Thank You:-) Inspiration from a few sources for this post, Roy Aronds being one.

Richard- And so many successful inventions and businesses were really accidents.

Steve- Missed your unique blog style there for awhile.  Glad to see you back in the saddle again.  Turn it upside down- right on.
