stainless steel garbage canI don't know about your house, but my family generates a lot of trash - most of it in the kitchen.  Sure, we recycle with the best of them-cans, glass, paper.  It doesn't matter, the trash keeps coming and coming.  We live in the city and we have a decent sized kitchen but it's not huge and we don't have a big cabinet to hide our trash can in.

So it sits out in a strategically located yet accessible location. It has to look good, so it has to be stainless.  The only thing you can find at the stores are small, good looking ones that we fill up in about a day and a half.

I show a lot of homes in Columbus and I haven't found a good solution.  If only I could take a 45 gallon plastic barrel and put it in the basement and have some kind of trash chute system; I'd be in heaven.

Take a look around though, there are not any good looking kitchen trash cans that are big enough to support a family.  It's true and that's my gripe for the day.  Tell me what your family does to prevent you from taking the garbage out four times a week!

Joe, I feel your pain.  I really appreciate it when my family decides to stack the leaning tower of empty snack boxes on the lid of the trash can so they do not have to make the effort to take the trash all the way out to the garage.  They feel like this works well because it helps dad notice that the trash needs to be emptied.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. And then, by the time you get to it, it's stuffed full and there is a vacuum effect that makes it so difficult to get the bag out!

Jeff,

Thanks for the laugh - I love your rant !

I would say the same about cleaning the house - as soon as you do, the dog tracks mud in, kids leave stuff lying around, the dust bunnies come back to haunt you.

I'm wondering when the self-cleaning home will come on the market... or at least the one with the self-cleaning bathroom !!

Hey Jeff - When we redid our kitchen, we put a pull out trash and recycle bin in a special made cabinet.  It still doesn't hold as much as you would like, but at least it's out of site.  Sherry

You need a trash compactor.  I had one put into our new house - it's great.
