Chloey, and road safety :-D

Today as I was driving down the road, I saw a large German Shepard wondering around the front yard of a house. After we passed it took off running across the street in front of another car (luckily they saw it and slowed down so they didn't hit him). Anyways, I got to thinking many people don't even teach their kids road safety tips anymore like to stay away from the road or look both ways before crossing the road, let alone their pets. Well I am proud to say my Chloey knows both of those tips. Stay away from the road unless you are with a parent (Me or my finacee Ashlee... a.k.a dad and mommy lol), and when crossing the road ALWAYS look both ways before crossing :-D. For those of you that don't already know Chloey, she is the beautiful 2 year old Boxer/ Pit mix in my profile picture. Please teach your kids (both human and pets) to stay out of the road, and if they have to cross look both ways :-D

Chris, The pics are adorable!!! I've told you before my Ex and I are raising our 3 year old grandson. We live on a pretty quiet cul-de-sac (except for the lawn guys) *lol* Not a lot of traffic, mostly the other residents here but I still have had to teach him the dangers of the road. He is VERY strong willed so he does try to defy me a lot. He's been warned and taught about the road but still TWICE he has challenged me and went in the road anyway. A couple good swats on the butt and a firm talking to and I'm hoping he never challenges me again. I think he finally got it. Can't give a "time-out" when the child is laying in the road injured or dead. I'm not a mean grandma but I don't spare the rod, he's sooooooooooo much more of a challenge than my kids every were. Or maybe its that I was 17 when I had mine, not 47!!! *lol*

Chloey has such a sweet face. Of course she's smart and listens to her "dad."

NJ- Exactly, I think the society we live in is weak, and totally screwed up when it comes to discipline. Oh don't hit your kids, don't yell at them either you'll hurt their feelings.... AND WE WONDER WHY ARE JAILS ARE PACKED! If the kid deserves a spanking or a good swat do it. No don't hit the kid... with a closed fist, or just for fun, but when they deserve it and just saying no don't work something has to be done. Like you said time outs don't work when the kid is laying in the road, in jail, or even worse dead. I got my fair share of spanks and swats and I am glad because I have a few friends who are in jail because their parents didn't care enough to teach them right from wrong. So I say keep up the good work :-D

Same with dogs, when they don't learn from no, they need some kind of other deterant, whether it is a spanking or shock from a shock collar or whatever than thats what needs to be done, otherwise you are not helping them, or making them good members of the dog world. Chloey knows the word spanking, all I have to do when she is not listening is say "Chloey you want a spankin?" and she straightens right up :-D (and no I do not hit her hard, I just give her a little swat on the butt, and send her to her bed... yes she is spoiled and has her own bed lol)

Laura- She is definitly a little sweetie :-D She is very smart and very good. Momma is the one that taught her to look before she crosses the road though because she usually gets the mail lol

Chris, I was raised with my share of spankins as well and glad I was. Raised my kids the same way. Oh, I had friends that did that "time out" crap and those were the friends that I hated for them to come over to my house cuz their kids were BRATS!!! I wanted to spank them myself. *lol* I could take my kids anywhere and they were always good because they knew better. They knew if they deserved a spankin, they would get it. Surprising, I hardly ever had to spank them. Now, my grandson (Mr Stubborn) *L* is requiring a few more than my kids probably because he is a lot like his mom (my stepdaughter)who NEVER, ever had a spankin. Probably the reason we have her child and she is out doing her own thing. No resposiblity!!! ANYWAY.........I hear ya on the dogs getting a swat as well, ours got one when needed and you're right they understand the word spankin. Your dog is a very nice looking animal and I'm sure well behaved. *s*

When my Shepherd was a pup I got some great advice from an animal trainer.  Sit, come, fetch are all good things to tech your dog, but the most important rhing for him do do 100% or the time are obey STOP and STAY.

BTW - good looking pup!

I need to teach my Foxy Roxy Lady That! So far all attempts at teaching road safety have been futile.

Rick- So true, the simple obiedience of stop and stay can be life savers. Chloey, knows stay (but only follows it when she really needs to.... ie. If I tell her to stay and there is a child around she will not listen and go give them kisses 100% of the time lol, but if I tell her to stay and there is a car coming or I am leaving the yard, and I want her to stay in it she listens).
