If you sustain damages, hire a Public Adjuster

I cannot stress this enough, as a victim of Hurricane Charley, I learned the hard way, if you sustain ANY damages from the upcoming storm, immediately call your insurance carrier if possible, as soon as possible, but also HIRE A PUBLIC ADJUSTER!!   If you do not live in the effected area, but you know someone that is, tell them to immediately hire an adjuster, if they need a reference, I will be more than glad to give one, but would suggest a local one to the effected area.  Make sure they do NOT hesitate!  Any reputable Public Adjuster will NOT accept ANY money from anyone BUT the insurance company.  But they know all the loopholes that the insurance companies try to use to avoid paying you for damages that you incurred, and might not realize it was a recoverable expense!  So please, if you, or ANYONE you know sustains damages from this hurricane or any disaster,

hire a Public Adjuster immediately!!

Ron, I have heard from others who experienced storm losses that an adjuster is well worth the money.  Don't they usually get a percentage of the claim?  And, the claim it much higher with the adjuster's expertise.

Hi Ron, thanks for the invite into your group. I wnet through Charlie and probably lost a deal because we could not get an adjuster out there fast enough..and some of tthe usual other reasons like seller getting impatient. Thanks for the heads up.

Great post, Ron. We learned the hard way that insurance companies are definitely not on your side when we had a water leak in our last home. I was so naive, I thought they would be there to help us! No, all they cared about was paying us as little as they could.

We finally hired a public adjuster and things went much better. Like an attorney on a personal injury case, they get a percentage of what your claim is but no money out of your pocket unless you settle with the company. I would definitely want one representing me again if we ever had another claim.

As a veteran of Charlie, Frances, Ivan, and Jean, (owning two houses for some of them), my best to everyone battening down the hatches now in SW FL.

Robert, yes, I learned the hard way, but this is great info, I hope everyone remembers if EVER effected by such an event.!!  And yes, Fay hit this area, but it was a dud (THANK GOD!!!) and I'll take this any day over actual hurricane!!  Freddy, your welcome, and thanks for joining!  Edie, right on target there!!  Edie, I think I see another blog coming on - explaining WHY it is so important to hire your own Public Adjuster, but for now, your brief explanation is sufficient and correct!  Michael, obviously, so did I, so we BOTH understand, as well as anyone that lived through a direct hit or direct other major natural event, we ALL understand, and unless you had a direct hit, you do not understand.  I didn't know or realize that until August 13, 2004!  Sharon, you are RIGHT on target as well!  Carey, your welcome, and thanks for stopping by!

Invaluable information. Sorry you had to learn the hard way.  Hope I never need it, but thanks for sharing.  Isn't is a shame that we pay our premiums for years and years and then when something happens we have to fight to get what is only fair?

I have videotaped my home, taken photos of special collections, created an inventory of artwork, etc. and stashed it in the vault at the bank.  I don't think the insurance company will be too happy to replace my contents even though they are insured for a high dollar amount, but the proof is in the pictures.

As a licensed Florida Public Adjuster I obviously would agree with you.  I worked as an independant adjuster for a few years before deciding to represent the public.  We all pay high premiums and all we expect is to get what we pay for when we need it.  If you or anyone you know ever has any questions, even if not in my area please pass along my information as I am always happy to help out any way I can.

Debra, if you ONLY KNEW how right you are!!!  It is appalling how the system works!  Your pictures should prove valuable - I certainly hope you never need them!!  Greg, honestly, they NEED to change the system.  They should be required by law to pay what is damaged without a big fight.  And face repercussions if they do NOT properly pay out.  I know I'm dreaming here, but it disgusts me having been a victim of a hurricane with a lot of damage.
