There have been a few blogs posted recently on marketing your business. Two of my favourites include: "Are you working on your business?" by Melissa Marro and "How do you market yourself?" by Alyse Bromberg.

Both deliver the same underlying message, to be successful in these business (or any other) marketing needs to be part of our regular routine.

Our days are busy working in our business, at the end of the day we would sometimes like to kick back and relax. But we need to take time to also work in our business and to do it on a regular basis.

I have a note card pinned beside my desk which reads "What did I do to build my business today?" to remind that marketing is a daily activity. Every day, I make sure that I do something to market my business, whether it's sending an email, contacting an agent or writing on my blog.

And you what...it works and it is paying off!

The other week I received an email from a Realtor who had seen one of my flyers. They needed a home staging within the week - could I meet the challenge? Of course, I always love a challenge!

I was hired to consult on the listing, shop for accessories and stage the home. The Realtor would also like to include staging with all of her listings and wants to further discuss this opportunity with me.

Was this email out of the blue? Of course, but should it really? I invested the time in my business and I am starting to get a return on it.

By participating on Active Rain, my Google ranking has gone way up, I advertise everywhere I go because my van tastefully promotes my business, I hand out business cards every chance I get and I regularly send flyers to Realtors.

So the next time you have a client or Realtor contact you from "out of the blue", ask yourself and them, how they heard about you. Through your hard work, marketing your business on a regular basis, your business will grow.

On the other hand, if your business isn't quite where you want it to be, take some time to review these marketing blogs, get your ideas rolling and commit to daily marketing.

Hi Lucie - I too enjoyed both those articles this week. I have been spending alot of time on AR which I believe is helping me tremendously!  This week we will be doing our very first presentation in a small realtors office. I am looking forward to it.  I feel at this time we are ready than. I believe it is because of all the advice that I have been receiving on the rain.  We have some things planned for it. I will have to let all know how it goes!  Sue

Hi Lucie, sometimes I wonder if I will ever be able to slow down the marketing.  I'm always printing postcards, letters, flyers.  I'm always gleaning realtors names and addresses and email addresses.  I'm always thinking of what to say and how to say it.  I just finished wrapping and packing little baskets with candy to deliver.  Next, I have to build my Constant Contact email database then do a newsletter.  I attend SBA seminars for women, and network when possible. I do these activities on my down days.  Its on going and never ending. And exhausting, but the only way to build the business.

Lucie...

While working on a flyer, I am popping into the rain and making commetns.

I would say that I spend at least 75% of my time a week working on SOME marketing aspect of my business. I am lucky I love it... but it takes a ton of work.

Lucie, I find that I learn a lot from writing blogs too.  The more marketing I do, the better my presentation gets.

Lucie,

I also enjoyed those posts. It is true that marketing may take up a large portion of your time, but all pays off when the phones won't stop ringing. Building a business is a ton of work - not stop it seems, but also fun.  I too enjoy the challenge, don't take no for an answer or ever have a doubt that I will succed.

Once you put your mind to something, give it all your heart and hard work - it will succeed. The power or prayers works wonders too ;)

Congrats on your recent success!

Hi Lucie,

Congrats on your newest job which is a result of all of your hard work in marketing!  I do at least one thing towards that end every day.  Sometimes the best that I can do is log onto Active Rain and comment.  But even by just doing that, you are building your presence on the search engines.

If you don't market, you won't have a business! It has to be part of your day. It is even better if you have it scheduled into your day.

Nothing is out of the blue. My biggest clientle  is Weichert realtors in Westfield NJ, but I met them by going to an Open House in Old Bridge NJ, 40 minutes away. The agent there was a friend of someone in Westfield, introduced us and the rest is HISTORY. Every day do one thing that makes you uncomfortable.
