The Hill family of Geneva, NY has won the Extreme Makover Home Edition!  Yeah!!!

Slight differences, but basically the same story:

I was pretty happy to hear the family's story.  Apparantly Tim was an aspiring boxer when he broke his back in a construction accident.  In the years that followed, he began training kids in the community how to box, working primarily with kids in need.

They seem to deserve it, and it will be an interesting week to see how the house changes.  I hope the Hill family has a nice week in Cancun.  I am sorry about the other families in the area rumored to have been finalists as well, I'm sure they were all deserving as well.  Perhaps now central New Yorkers will come together to do something as a community to help them out as well.

How far is that from Syacuse and are you going to go over and see if you can get a picture off those buns?

Geneva is about 45 minutes west of where I live so it's a little bit of a trip. But, since the outlet mall is just a few miles outside Geneva, and it is back to school time... LOL any excuse for a glimpse, right?

I always wonder how they actually pick the family they pick - because I've seen some families on there with serious "sad sob" stories (not making fun) and others with just "oh, you've done a wonderful thing but are otherwise just fine" stories.  It's not always about the "deepest need".  So, I wonder!

You know, I would think one of the requirements would have to be that you own your home free and clear.  Otherwise you would have to get permission from your mortgage company to make such huge modifications to the property.  But you're right, some are real sad sob stories and you just can't imagine anyone deserving it more.  I ran across a local blog site with a lengthy discussion about it, and was shocked to see so many people putting down the choice of the winner, type of house, and location.  There were some people trying to put these "negative nancy's" in there place, but still...

I really would like to know about the other potential winners.  I'd love to be able to do something for them as well!
