Can I ask where this awesome ice sculpture was created? It doesn't look like the North Carolina I remember. I'm guessing somewhere a bit further north?

03/27/2007 11:13 PM by Debi Braulik (Tacoma Real Estate) (John L. Scott Real Estate)

That is truly heart touching. It's also fitting that it is made of ice (frozen water) which is used in fire fighting.

Wow! as a former New Yorker, who knew a young man that perished in WTC, and knew firemen that were on the clean up crews, this was especially poignant to me.

So we know anything about the Artist?

Seeing this just reminded me of 911 all over again.  All the brave Firefighters who lost thier lives saving others.  As with many that will never be a day I forget. I was still in the Navy when I heard the news and thought someone was joking then I saw the news and thought this must be the preview from a new movie.  When it finally hit all I could think about was reaching my Mom because she was a nurse at a near by hospital.  Calling frantically and not getting through because the phone lines were done.  Waiting to here any news ................... I didn't found out she was OK until latter that day.

THANK GOD FOR FIREFIGHTERS

03/31/2007 02:51 PM by Duayne Weir - Minnesota Real Estate Agent (Investment Realities LLC/MarketLink Realty)

I was at work the day it happened, as most of us were.  I always have the radio on in my office, and I heard the breaking news on the radio and immediately ran to the "lounge" and turned the television on, no one else had heard the news at that point. I alerted the staff as to what was happening and we all watched in amazement.   I stood there in awe watching the events unfold in front of me.  Then, I watched in horror, along with probably millions of other Americans, when the second plane hit the second tower, I nearly fell to my knees.  I could not believe what I was seeing and could only hope that was I was seeing was not real.  I have been affected by many things in my life time, good and bad, but NEVER had I experienced anything like this.  For days and weeks all I could do was to watch the television, waiting for someone to say it was some kind of hoax, I couldnt even force myself to stop crying as time went on.  I will never, ever, forget 9/11 as long as I live. May God forever bless those whose lives were lost, their loved ones and all of the brave Americans that worked so hard to save so many lives in this ultimate tragedy.

That is an amazing picture.  Thanks for the beautiful post.  I will always remember where I was when I heard about the planes hitting the towers.  I watched it on TV hearing fighter planes flying over head.  I was working at one of the steel mills near Lake Michigan.  A lot of things changed that day.

Brings to mind many memories, both the good and the bad-

We were starting to rebuild after the tornado we had in June,  when I heard the news & came rushing  in to our  heavily damaged house from our temporary  living quarters and found my husband & the construction crew holding hands in a circle & praying.

A great reminder of what we are fighting for.

04/11/2007 11:42 AM by Brian Foxworth (Palmetto South Mortgage )

I'm uncertain as to who the artist is, but one of our own activerainers told us that this shot was taken here in NC in front of his ex-wifes house.  Unfortunately thats all I know about it right now!  I'll keep diggin' though!!

Thank you for all of your comments, I'm glad you have all enjoyed this and have been able to appreciate like I have.

04/11/2007 11:57 AM by Tish Shaftner (Marathon Realty and Auction Inc)

The angel looks so tired, probably from watching over the fireman.  Anyone who willingly walks into a burning building is a hero.  Great tribute to them!  Thanks!

04/12/2007 06:07 PM by D G (Prudential)

Last night I was channel surfing and came across this sweet movie of someone who was helping the fire captain (sorry as I don't know the correct title) who had to give eulogies for eight fire fighters that died in the line of duty on Sept. 11.  It was very touching and then today, I met a new client to show him a home and he is a fire fighter and came in his jacket which had a badge of his station.  I wanted to say something, especially after having seen that movie, but did not know what to say--I had such a respect for him and just knew how proud he was to be a fire fighter.  Then I saw this picture tonight and read all the comments--thank you for posting it.

How beautiful and touching.  We went to ground zero awhile back and I was struck by the quiet, respectful manner everyone observed at the sight.  This art inspires that feeling.  The artist is truly gifted.

Thanks for sharing,

Fran

Tish,

Boy, you sure got my attention. Speaking of 9/11, I, like so many others saw the second tower hit. I  couldn't believe my eyes. I'm a 25 year member of our volunteer fire department. Most of us spent the day together watching all the followup. Even now it is hard to believe anything like this could happen in America.  As a firefighter I purchased a 2003 Fire Fighter special edition Ultra Classic. That's a Harley of course. Have a great day.

I was cruising in the rain and saw this amazing tribute, what a wonderful sculpture.

05/16/2007 10:53 PM by Frank Harris (Keller Williams Realty Centre)

wow

I keep saying wow in my comments but wow lol

That's amazing, it reminds me of something I saw on TV, forget the show or channel; but it was this guy who did murals on dusty cars. I mean full blown detailed pictures made out of dust on a car lol

Thought of that because of the amount of time and effort it took and the stunning quality of the finished product but how short lived it is when the sun comes out =\

Great tribute to remember the NYFD though <3

Tish-

I am in Middletown NJ, we had termendous losses here, in some cases more than one member in the same family.  I still look at our horizon and can't believe that the Towers are no longer there.  I was working in NYC when they were being built.

This brought tears to my eyes and a chill, feels like yesterday that it all happened.

Thanks, I will share it with many.
