Amish sheds are 'kid friendly'...!!!

A couple of years ago we ordered one of those Amish made sheds for our rear yard...

Where most families store garden tools and equipment in such an outbuilding, supposedly, this would alleviate keeping our kids toys, bikes, balls, pogosticks, hula hoops, scooters, skateboards, etc. in our garages...thus creating more room for our cars and other 'adult' toys...it also creates a demarcation point and keeps kids in their own zones...as much as possible...

Well, our shed, which was ordered to match the siding, shingles, and color scheme of our home, took only about 6 weeks to be delivered...and we ordered it with a ramp to make access a lot easier for the kid's wheeled vehicles...

Little did we know that the ramp, the directional orientation of the shed itself, and the deep stone base upon which the shed sits would create an ideal environment for the breeding of frogs and toads...another 'kid friendly' activity...!

The thing I like about this activity is that the kids will play with the animals, but not relegate them to an indoor tank or aquarium...unless for 'nursing' purposes...thus respecting the harmony which nature creates around us...an important life lesson...

So when you order one of those beautiful Amish made sheds, consider carefully where you will place it in your yard...you could create or eliminate a meaningful 'conversation piece'...!!!

Maybe advertise in the paper to sell some of them. Don't they breed quickly?

I love those little frogs.  There's a month period in southern Delaware when they are all over my neighborhood.  We have swales in our yard for the rain water, so they have a gathering spot for my daughter to find them.

Wow, that sounds awesome. We have frogs and critters all around us and especially love the chirping, croaking and other night noises around us. Of course it helps to have a swamp behind our property.

Where did you find the Amish Shed? Had never heard of them.

Fran We will be at the cabin next week with all the kids- They catch these little tiny toady things- and love to bring them into the cabin to make me scream- They have me paranoid...I have to check and double check- my papercups, pots and bowls to be sure they have not become a "house" for a creature- Frogs and kids.. What a great combination! Thanks

Fran- I was going to write about the little toads at my dad's cabin- but my mom stole my thunder!!!  My mom and dad have one of these sheds behind their house- and it's become home to a family of foxes.  Their house is a true zoo- deer and foxes and bears- OH MY!!!

Fran, I think it is so cool that you got the side benefit of the breeding ground for the frogs and toads, always popular amphibians in our area when we can find them.

I would love to have one of these sheds for all my patio furniture!  My ancestors on my mother's side are from Amish Country in Pennsylvania (Lancaster, I think)  I've never been there but I have been to an Amish community in St. Joseph's MO.

Even the simplest of things can attract animals.  Where you attract animals, you attract kids.  Lotsa fun!
