Yes, I felt the same shock when I read there were 128 Days until Christmas on a recent post by Kara Casamassina on Athletic Alley. She was actually talking about the recent Olympic victories by the Jamaican track team and happened to mention the 128 days!

I am not a person who enjoys shopping! I am not a person who enjoys crowds! In the past couple of years, I have really taken to buying as much as possible online. I shop for books, DVD's, clothes, concert tickets, and lots of other stuff. When I first began shopping online, I was worried about hackers and other shadowy figures intercepting my credit card or bank info. Though this is a possibility, I try to minimize my exposure by using only secure websites that are identified by the lock in the lower right hand corner and having and web address that begins with https. I also utilize programs like Revolution Money Exchange and Paypal to add buyer protection with sites or companies that I may not be very familiar with. Since I have grown accustomed to shopping online there are other things that I look for now that I might not have known about before.

I find myself looking for things like free shipping. I also try to combine gifts to be delivered to a third party out of state address so that I can avoid repackaging and reshipping them. Another thing I look for, especially if I am shipping directly to the gift's recipient, is the availability of gift wrapping. For elaborate papers and bows there is sometimes a charge and sometimes it is complimentary. If they are gifts for a child but will be received by the parent, many times the parent, with a bit of advanced warning, will be willing to receive the package and take care of wrapping it! I also utilize online services that will publish the sales papers prior to their actual release in the local papers. For big shopping events like Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, this can come in very handy. If you are aware of the upcoming sales, you can use them for internet shopping as well as traditional in store shopping. For example if you are a fan of Gamestop, for all those gamers in your life, you can check out the Thanksgiving ads in advance! For me, this has made shopping much more stress free.

Now don't get me wrong, you will still be able to find me wandering the malls and stores during the holiday season. The big difference will be that I will be enjoying the decorations and sounds as opposed to dealing with the distracted salespeople and frazzled shoppers. Another difference, I can leave whenever I want; whether I've bought anything or not! Ah, this year I will look forward with happy anticipation to the holidays and holiday shopping.

Now I need to find some money!

Wow!  Time flies!  But I guess in a seasonal business it's best to start thinking about Christmas expenses while the cash is flowing, right?

Rich, OH NO.  This year has screamed by! I'm with you on crowds, long lines, plus, I just don't have the time anymore. My favorite ways to shop? Amazon.com, Ebay, Gift Certificates.

Rich - I ONLY shop online if I can help it.  The mall - not my favorite.  So I know what you mean.  Guess I better start buying all the Hannah/Miley crap  wonderful stuff I can find now and hide it very well.  : )

Dreamfinders - It would definitely be a good idea!

Debbie - I know! I can't believe that school is back in session for the kids, and starts tomorrow for UT college students! I am with you on a couple of those!

Chris - Online is the way to go! I find that I come across things that I might never find in a store! Getting it early and stashing it away is a good plan. It hurts your feet and pocketbook less!

Mine are grown now Rich, but it does not keep Christmas, halloween, the election, etc. etc. etc. from getting here way faster than I am prepared emotionally, financially, etc., etc. Funny post.

Thanks

Bo

Rich: Funny you blogged about this today. Just last night I was at the grocery store and the startling thought came to me that Thanksgiving would be here before I could blink. I don't like it, I tell you!

Joan - <<<smile>>> Are you one of those pleasant holiday shoppers that I'll be smiling at as they fight the parent next to them for the last <ENTER TOY OF THE MOMENT HERE> We still have many months of warm weather and as Kim and Bo just commented, Halloween and Thanksgiving first!

Bo- Halloween was one of my favorite holiday when I was a kid! I like football Thanksgiving best now because I can eat all day, drink beer, and watch football enjoy an entire day with the extended family! BTW, check out these awesome posts on the upcoming Vol football season by a current UT student! The University of Tennessee Preview: Offense, The University of Tennessee Preview: Defense, and The University of Tennessee Preview: Special Teams & Coaches

Kim - Do you have fried pumpkin and/or pecan pies at Thanksgiving?!? <<<smile>>>

Man the thought of Christmas just makes me cold. Around here you don't even want to think about winter. It comes all to soon!

Julie - I guess being able to fly out (even if it is for work) gives you some small measure of reprieve from the cold!

Danny - It is getting close!

Vernal is a little warmer that Idaho Falls, and has a little longer growing season. Last year was my first winter there and it was a bad one for them. They hadn't had one like in about 27 years. I thought it was like home! I did slip off to Florida for about a week and to Hawaii for a couple days last winter! I go down to St George Utah to se my Mom often and it is warmer there too.

Julie - I lived in Florida for about 6 or 7 years prior to Atlanta and now Knoxville. I loved Florida and miss it.

My Sister has a couple condos in Fort Myers. That is the only place I have been east if Minnesota and Colorado.
