Build a Real Estate Dream Team!

By
Industry Observer

It's that time of year!

I am a Fantasy Football nut.  I love the NFL and I'm almost as fanatical about the idea of drafting and managing my own virtual team.  I'll be honest...I am so brainwashed by this obsession that I've been thinking of a way to blog about FF and tie it into this forum. So here we go...

What's the point?

The whole idea of Fantasy Football is to select players from different positions from different teams.  Then you play head to head against other team owners. If your team scores more points than your opponent that week you win....same thing through the season and hopefully you make the playoffs.  A successful team is one that is well balanced and has players who are reliable and perform consistently at an above-average level of talent. PRODUCERS!

The same goes for your team in Real Estate...and by team I mean-who are your "go-to" people in the transaction?  You know...the professionals you entrust your clients to in lending, inspections, title work, settlement, etc.  Each of those roles can stop the game and cost you a win if you have someone who "fumbles" at the goal line.

You're the Coach and General Manager!

Look, ultimately our clients choose who they play with...it's their right to choose a lender, inspector, closing agent...but most don't have relationships with those people.  We on the other hand do business in the industry every day.  We've built a pool of pros that we trust.  Have your list of "past client" recommended team players on a one sheet for new clients.  Maybe your clients are new to the area...don't just let them pick anyone.  REFER them to someone who has a track record of winning.  You want the same kind of referrals..right?

More importantly who on your team is coming up short?  Maybe it's time to make a trade or draft someone more reliable to fill that role.  You're the coach...you help decide who gives you the best chance to win.  Just like "pretend football" you need backups...people take time off, they specialize in certain areas, there are personality differences.  Do your best to use the best players for the situation and call the plays that keep the ball moving up the field.

I know this seems a little simplistic and as REALTORS we don't call all the shots.  But like any other area in life - folks do come up short sometimes, injuries happen, there are rules to play by, and the dreaded intangibles.  You want to be prepared as possible for game time with a strong focused team.  Surprises pop up all the time but a veteran team knows how to respond with a problem solving - WINNING attitude!

I'll see you on the Grid Iron...and good luck this season!

I like this concept.  Leave nothing to chance if you have the best team possible.  Great advice.

Attitude is #1, a good referral sheet with 2-3 pros in each specialty is a must!
