Lynette- That's a pretty big margin for some of the states, and of course California has to be one of the top 10 most expensive.

Kathy, At least California is # 10! I imagine some of these are in the top 10 because because they require lawyer services. Thanks for reading my posts, Lynnette

Interesting.  I suppose that there are trade offs, because while Florida ranks # 3 most expensive, deed and doc stamps etc are tax revenues to the state and we don't have state income tax here.

Deborah, Obviously this survey only took one basic fact into consideration! Thanks for helping clarify the facts. :)

Interesting...MS was ranked 30 (down from 14 the year before).  Wonder what made it drop.  I see they don't take into accout taxes.  I suspect MS would come out cheaper if they did as we have no transfer tax.  I used to work for a retailer closing commercial properties and I remember both parts of New York and Philadelphia have very high closing costs.

Maryland is an expensive state to close in. As a buyer in Florida I was pleasantly surprised how inexpensive it was compared to MD>

Pam, I hadn't paid much attention to the changes between years...it does make you wonder why! Thanks for stopping by.

Ellie, Does Maryland require an attorney for closing? I know Texas does & it ranks #2.
