What a depressing MLS meeting this morning. Two homes on the tour and a room full of empty chairs. Where is everyone? Granted, this morning's tour was for a small, rural territory of our MLS zones, but still, there are plenty of listings on the market and plenty of fellowship to be had at 8:30 am on sunny Wednesday in August.
We just came off a July that was like the month that never occurred. Between the wild fire smoke, out-of-school vacations and record gas prices, July seemed to progress at a snail's pace in all elements. But, now on August 20, kids are back in school, skies are blue and gorgeous and gas is back under $4/gal. (which is still just 1/10th of the price of Starbucks coffee per net oz.)
Now is the time for agents to be touring properties, networking with peers, up and at em's during the week and making things happen. I really hope we're not seeing a new pattern of apathy, because that will further delay the recovery we all desperately, optimistically... patiently, drastically... need. I know it has been a trying couple of years, but it won't get better unless we make it better.
I'm going to throw out this spark-challenge (since I hate not practicing what I preach) - Let's everyone take a few extra minutes/hours in the remainder of August to make things happen. Do the little things, make a couple extra calls, shake a couple extra babies, kiss a few hands, just add your own little spark. Maybe our energy can hold off this apathy and help bring us closer to better times ahead. (and, if you extra efforts result in a positive, you have the blogging group to tell.)
