Every year, Newsweek Magazine compiles their list of the top public high schools in America.  And every year high schools throughout Northern Virginia capture many of the top spots on this list.  In fact, in 2008, eight Northern Virginia public high schools made the top 100.  Another seven placed in the top 200, and there are many other area schools on Newsweek's list of the Top 1,300 U.S. Public High Schools.

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology -- located in Alexandria, Virginia, T-J is a public magnet school with 13 science and technology research labs and more than 10 post-AP courses.
