Today was the second day of the Dutchess County Fair.  A friend and I decided to spend the afternoon checking it out.  We could not have asked for better weather, and since it was midweek we did not expect it to be so crowded but it was.      Ring of Fire at Dutchess County Fair

My friend and I wondered why it was so crowded and two reasons came to mind.

  • With the present economic condition many could not afford to take a vacation and the fair provided an inexpensive way of getting some entertainment in the form of rides, talent show, musical acts, animal shows and competition, exhibitions etc.  This was like several vacations rolled up into one.
  • The weather recently has been wet, but so far this week it has been perfect, so here was a chance to get in some last minute fun before heading back to school or saying good bye to summer.

The Dutchess County fair will run until Sunday  August 24th, so there is still chance for you to attend and I don't think you will be disappointed. So click here for the schedule of events

Although the event is well covered by radio stations on site as well as newspapers, let me share with you what I saw at the fair, so set back and enjoy my brief slide show.

Hi Jennifer,

Looks like fun for everyone in Dutchess County! We had ours not long ago. I mentioned on Teri's blog in MN that we're all a bunch of fair geeks in our family. we enter all kinds of things, it's always fun.

Glad to hear you had such great weather today!

I love the Dutchess Fair. They have the best animal displays of all the local counties.  I don't think I will make it this year.  Glad to hear it was good again this year.

Jennifer, I love your slide show!  It reminds me of the state fairs when I was growing up in Kansas!  And I can still taste the cherry pies!

Jennifer I am glad that you guys had good weather for this event.  We also have a fair that comes to town in the Fall, but we are not as fortunate as you, it ALWAYS seems to rain.

Jennifer, We loved the DC Fair when we lived in the Hudson Valley. Who was the musical guest this year? We used to go at night..it was enchanting!
