Looking for a place to beat the heat on a hot Texas summer day? A true island paradise in Port Aransas, ferry boatTexas is the perfect place. Located on Mustang Island off the Texas Gulf coast and surrounded by bodies of water, Port Aransas boasts over 18 miles of beaches. (Yes, we do have beaches in Texas!)

The adventure begins watching dolphins dancing in and out of the water as a vehicle ferry carries you across the ship channel to the popular resort. Once here, you'll be greeted by the bustling of in-town activities with something to offer everyone.dolphin

Lodging choices include bungalows, channel or beach-front homes, hotel suites and high-rise condos with breathtaking waterfront views, boardwalks to the beach and pools to cool off in.beach1

Start the day with a stroll down the soft sandy beaches searching for seashells and catch the Gulf waves. Port Aransas, also fondly known as Port A, is home to some of the finest fishing around where you can charter one of many deep sea cruises, fish along the beaches or from one of many piers.charter

For the thrill seekers there's windsurfing, jet skiing and parasailing. See the sights by air on a helicopter tour or take a horse ride along the sandy shores. Step down the pace and take an electric car tour around the cottage lined streets, play a round of golf, visit the art centers, museums or catch a day trip out to a barrier island. The fun here is endless.

Port Aransas is one of the few places in the world where you can drive your vehicle along miles and miles of beaches and a popular bird watching resort with over 500 species of birds known to inhabit and visit the island yearly. There's plenty of restaurant choices including beach and waterfront dining, and shopping is always fun with a variety of souvenir shops and unique sunsetboutiques.

At the end of the day, there's still time to sit back, relax and savor the fabulous sunset.

Port Aransas! A great choice for a romantic getaway, family fun and to beat the heat on a hot summer Texas day!beat the heat

Hi Keith from Port Aransas Realty.  Thanks for the comment on my blog.  My husband and I own a vacation condo in Port A so we go there as often as we can which isn't always often enough. Lucky you to be living and working on the island!

Karen,  We had our first family vacation at Port A this June. What a blast! Can't wait to go back- great place to vacation!

Hi Mary Jo, It really is a blast there.  Every time we go, the little town gets bigger - more business, more homes, more tourists.  So many people are discovering what a great place it is to vacation.  In the winter, the island is full of 'snow birds' from the east.

First to Liz Carter:  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  I am excited to have taken 3rd place in the "Beat the Heat' contest and, of course, the 500 prize points are a welcome bonus for me.  It was a lot of fun writing about Port Aransas.  We have a condo there for many years and feel like it's our second home.   On a final note, I want to mention how much I enjoy being a part of the ActiveRain community.  I've learned so much already in the two short months here and am in awe of all the talented and friendly members we have here.

Dale:  I always enjoys seeing your cowboy signature  on my blogs - thanks for always taking the time to read my posts.

Ricki:  Glad you enjoyed the post and pictures.  I see you live in Texas too so I hope you've experienced Port A for yourself.

Sherry & Trey:  Thank you both for the congrats!

Gena:  Thanks!  We have a large school of dolphins in Port A.  They are often spotted in the channel that carts visitors to the island in the ferry.   People get out of their cars during the ferry ride over to watch the dolphins entertain with their dancing in the waters.
