Shirley, people take pictures in and around airports all of the time. However, NYC Airports have been under terrorist  threat alerts since 9-11, so sometimes if the warning color is for a higher alert, or there is security intelligence, then they take notice of what people are doing with their cameras, standing patterns, loitering, etc. If people are aiming towards security check points, security electronic devices, or anything considered sensitive, depending on what is happening and where they are it might not be a good thing. I can not answer your inquiry because I honestly do not know. I do know that there are times when, for reasons unknown to all except the security personnel, airlines do not want people taking pictures in certain areas. It, the variables, change hourly, daily, weekly... I kinda want to go back and photograph the planes, but I will do it on an off peak day like Wednesday and during an off peak hour.

Cristal, you are very welcome. I'm thinking about popping over to LGA and taking a couple of shots of it as well. JFK isn't as condensed and is so much easier to capture. 

Michael, I know what you mean. When I was a baby they would do these specials and show the funeral every anniversary. I remember being a child and wondering who he was because my whole family would be crying as if they had lost a personal friend. It was the same with Martin Luther King Jr. I understand now, but I didn't understand the civil rights movement as a child back then, or how profound the loss of these two men were to a lot of people.

Becky, I prefer driving everywhere I go, unless a plane is necessary. I don't know all of the rules either and have traveled with video and still cameras as well. Terrorism has colored a lot of how we do things nowadays. In one building, they took the rolls from some Japanese tourists and gave them new film. They were making a really big stink about their vacation pictures. Who knows what any of this is all about? I'm not privy to it, I just try to avoid it. :-)

Mike, I like all forms of travel, but my favorite is the car because you can pull over any time you like and go exploring. I usually use trains and planes if I have to be expedient. Other than that, I'm a road trip fanatic.
