As realtors we are constantly made aware of the dangers that can be found in and around the home. We have so many disclosures that we need to present to the home-buyer that it's very hard to forget. Houses built prior to 1978 most likely had paint that contained lead and radon is a gas that is emitted in the air from the breakdown of uranium, radium and rock in the soil. The real danger is when there are elevated levels of these harmful substances.
The key to staying healthy is education and prevention so I thought it was my responsibility to share a site that can be used to educate ourselves. Http://www.consumerreports.org is a great site. They are a non-profit that doesn't take any product donations and uses their own money to test products and offer a non-biased opinion. They have recently tested lead and radon test kits for the home. If you are thinking about buying one for your home I would suggest you check out http://www.consumerreports.org/health/healthy-living/health-safety/lead-radon-test-kits/overview/lead-radon-tests-kits-ov.htm.
Stay safe and keep your family safe. Your home should be there for enjoyment and not be something you worry that is making you sick. If you'd like more information or tips please email me your email address.
Good points Mario. Many consumers are unaware of the dangers of radon. It's our job to educate them, and we have to learn and educate ourselves before helping others.
