Don't feel sorry for me this is life...

Yikes it has Vista

I haven't been blogging much this week, I bought a new Blackberry Curve ( after getting laughed at at Inman ) and a new lap top.

I have a new assistant starting after Labor Day and wanted to take my desktop into the office for her. Plus I thought it would be fun to blog in bed. (BIB) You can't BIB with a tablet because Activerain doesn't have the feature for writing on tablet, and I'm not even gonna try to tap out each letter on the built in keyboard on the screen.

Sony VaioSo I chose the Sony Vaio, can't even pronounce it. Oh yea....it has VISTA. So another learning curve.

You see, I have been with Nextel for 13 years!! Yea I know weird, huh? or at least an anomaly.

But, Nextel is just not upgrading their phones so I switched to Sprint. Well, not really a switch since it is really the same company.

But now I can do twitpics, and a photo blog.

Hussan Issa at Sprint Store

Hussan Issa helped me and he was excellent in customer service.

Hussan is a Lead Communication Specialist at the Sprint Store, located at 2828 Oak Valley Dr in Ann Arbor, MI.

Today I finally had time to set up the new laptop, spent 4 hours getting it loaded with all my information, when the V key popped off. (opps) When I called, they said "bring it in, and we'll give you a new one". So I took off all the important things in Outlook and took it back in. Only when we got there, they tried to fix it. OK fine, I didn't take off all my firefox add ons.

Problem was we got home, started to put the programs back on and opps the letter V popped off again.

Best Buy LogoSo back to Best Buy to get a new one.

The proof Basically, I've been sitting here since 6:00 AM installing and uninstalling and learning the new Blackberry. When a program was downloading I would play learn the BB.

Finally decided enough was enough!

Hey, its Friday night, I'm usually on my deck at the lake.Devils Lake in Manitou Beach, MI

In between all this I've been negotiating offers on 2 of my listings, finished 2 CMA's, one to go, and everything else we do in a normal day.

So that's my week, story and I'm sticking to it.

Hey Jessica Horton, want to send me your "ghost writers" name for Localism? I've got 19 communities to keep up with, and as Mayor I can't neglect my constituents.

Now back to that blogging in bed...........

Missy, I had to get a new laptop last week when mine died and I'm having that same learning curve with Vista.  Then my not-so-smart phone started acting up and I have 6 more days until I'm eligible for an equipment upgrade and have been looking at the Blackberry.  Let me know how you like it, because I'm scared to death of making the wrong choice!!

BIB...lol, haven't tried it but sounds fun! Just curious, why did you choose a Blackberry over a Palm Treo? I'm ready to get a new phone and am debating between the two.

Missy, I love to BIB! I'm sorry to hear you're having so much trouble. I've adjusted to Vista. It's not so bad. Just too many boxes to click! Why did they laugh at you about your blackberry? What do they recommend? I'm like Lisa above...I don't want to choose wrong and it's about time to shop.

Hi Missy, Congratulations with all the new toys tools. I know that the learning curve for you will short. As for me, I can't wait till my time comes to change over- completely over to Apple. I know, the MLS says Windows, I will put it on the other half of the computer. Talk to Jeff Turner, I wish I had listened to him when I had almost changed on the last Tablet purchase.

No biggie, they are take a lot of effort and way to much of our time, even though we do really love playing working on them.

Missy - I always look at new technology with both fear and trepidation. Got a new Curve myself a couple of months ago and still have stuff to learn. The learning curve is longer than I would like but life keeps interupting. Congratulations on your deals - hope they both go well so you can enjoy even more time at the lake.

Blogging in bed?

I was going to get a curve.... still not sure. I don't know if I will use it enough to pay for the extra data fees.

Missy - I recently changed my phone to a htc PPC6800.  Runs Windows Mobile, has a camera/video, all those little programs that make life easier.  Took me a while to get the hang of it, but now I can't imagine being without it.  The option of retrieving my email while zooming down I-75 is priceless.  You will learn to love that little gadget!

Sounds like your market is moving - and I'm so glad to hear that!  Send a few buyers down here!

About that BIB thing ... my husband would have kittens if I took the laptop to bed!  LOL

Missy...

More toys :-), so here is a story for you.  In return for me giving you a heads up on this, you can set up my 25 cities/communities that I need to do.  Can you have it done by the end of next week????  With your new BIB toy, I'm sure that will not be a problem.

I was reading my new AAPR (damn it), the Sept/Oct edition.  On the cover it has a tag for a feature, "Live Longer, Live Here!  America's 10 Healthiest Cities.

Drum roll, #1 is Ann Arbor, Michigan.  It's an awesome article, and makes you want to pack your bags ASAP.  Google it, or buy it, but if for some reason you can't find it, let me know and I'll mail you my magazine.  L

I read this twice and laughed (and groaned) each time.  Kudos to you for getting 2 new pieces of technology in one day.  (I'm not that brave :-)

One more thing...how often do we use the letter V?  Heck, I would have glued it back on.   (And violated the warranty...:-)

Missy I had a BB a few years ago and hated it.  Could not hear.  The mic was no good.  So I changed out.  But a couple months ago I tried it again and I like this newer model much better.  I am betting I'll have to get a new lap top soon as this one I have may not last much longer.  I don't like the learning curves and they seem to get more difficult as I get older?  What is up with that?

I BIB and have a Blackberry Curve, hang in there when you are set up it is worth it, the Curve works like a charm I love it!  Good luck with the rest.  Nurturing communities on AR is not possible with all the rest that has to be done.  I am so very busy right now something has to go by the way side.  Tom, love your little emoticon.

Tracy, I love my Tablet PC. and use it like you do, for traveling, but how do you use it for typing in bed? I have a key board to recharge, it works like a battery. But, it to hard to sit in bed with it. I like to use my tablet for writing which I can do in Journal Writer, one note. But, for blogging haven't found an easy solution, so please share how you do this.

Steve, Lisa, Debra, Nannette, I have a Blackberry, the OLD 5760 Model from Nextel, with no camera and Nextel abiltiy. I love the Blackberry, just needed to upgrade to a more modern one. The learning curve is not hard with the new one, my kids have the Curve and I've been playing with theres. Just getting all the emails set up and Twitter on Blackberry. Just normal change over stuff.

Debra, they were laughing because it is so BIG and clunky. "What is THAT?" Heres the photo. Hold curser over the photo!

I have the blackberry; here's the only problem I've had with it...if you want to dial something like 222-HOME; you can't.  Unless you count out ABC on the "1", DEF on the "2", etc.  and that is quite difficult while you are driving!!

I know it really does get hectic. One needs a technology guru just to keep track of all the devices and programs. Between the Vista OS (i have one too), Blackberry, Outlook, Flip Video and camera, it can become a challenge. Vista seems to be okay despite all the negativity I have heard about it. Just beware when you send word or excel documents to someone else as they will not be able to open them unless they also have Vista. You will have to save them in a format like Excel or Word 2003. Take care.

I feel your pain! I've gone thru the new laptop and new phone this past year.

Was interested in your comment on the V key. On my Vaio, the TAB key popped off several months ago, the shift key is loose & wiggles, and now the DELETE key sticks. Maybe too many dog hairs under the keys.  ;-)

Missy:  As you probably know... there is nothing quite as bad for a Mayor than to have her "V" key keep falling off.  Sounds painful to me... but, then again, you have worked under adverse conditions in the past, so I know you will do well.  Take care... :)

The worst thing about getting a new computer is the set up. Yikes, I should go read a review on it. Minw is brand new no dog hairs, (yet)

Michael, thanks for the heads up, I know that as my assistant has had vista for awhile and some of my team members could not open documents. Actually I like it so far !

I had a Nextel too and finally changed over to Sprint and got a Palm.  I spent a lot of time getting all the e-mail etc. to work and many trips to the Sprint store - but they were GREAT!  It hasn't been that long and I can't imagine what I did without it.  I need a new laptop - my sound doesn't work for some reason and I have been living with - getting harder and hard with all the videos but hate to go through all the switching over.

Missy, Technology is a love/hate relationship; isn't it?  I have actually come to love some of the features of Vista but I know the technology geeks hate it.  I'm looking at the cutesy things it does they are looking at the nightmare it creates.  I expect large corporations are going to wait until the next system that comes out but in the meantime I still like the cutesy things.

Hi Missy - I don't have a PDA, yet, but am leaning toward the Blackberry mainly because so many in my office use it.  I know I can go to them if I need help.  If they laughed at you, they would have been rolling in the floor at my 'old-fashioned' appointment book....

I got a Curve about a month ago.  I love it!  First I thought the keyboard would be too small, but I am getting pretty fast.  I especially like that I can hook it to my laptop and use it as a modem.

Learning curves on all this tech stuff can be daunting.  But, once my daughter moved away from the area I have had to learn this new stuff myself, and you know I actually am enjoying it.  Especially when I get it quicker than my daughter.

Elizabeth, I know another builder moving to Huntsville, looking at land. I already told him about you to refer him too, if he buys that land and does a sub. He works with my lender and I told her to tell him, "do not buy land until you meet with Elizabeth to make sure, it is a good location".

Most of the builders here have gone South, N.C. or TN.  Have you heard of C.F. Flag? One of our good friends moved there to run it with his dad. They love it. John was a Youth Pastor here for my kids, his dad kept wanting him to come to Huntsville to work with him, so after 4 kids they finally did.

I love the curve, no issues at all.... my second blackberry. So very similiar but more features. Just switched from Nextel to Sprint.
