Fay, Fay, go away and don't come back another day...snakes, alligators, and sewage.

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Fort Lauderdale Beach

Well today again, we had a delluge of feeder bands coming through south Florida.  There was so much rain, I couldn't get to my car for over an hour.

Aventura is under over a foot of water.  The rain in Fort Lauderdale amounted to over 2.5 inches.

This is worse than when hurricane Fay was a threat to our area.

That being said, there has been rumored that because of the massive amounts of water, snakes and alligators are coming up through the sewer drains in the roads and causing issues.  The local 7 (WSVN) (FOX affiliate) news is telling people to stay out of the water as the sewage is not contained either...at least in Aventura. The water levels are up to the fender's of compact cars and up to the running boards on trucks...

Reason for the post is...keep your children and pet's in sight and don't go out unless you have to and be careful.

When the rain's come...the animals are also looking for safe ground.

Stay indoor's unless you have good outside lighting at night.

Anyone else in Florida feeling the same pain?

Come January, I will begin spending half of my life in Hallandale Beach.  Is this the kind of stuff I have to look forward to?  :)

I remember Hurricane season in Port St. Lucie (east) and Hernando (west) side.  I don't miss either side of Florida, except during very cold and snowy winters in Canada.  Well maybe, some parts, like when a family of foxes lived behind our Hernando house, and when large tortoises took over most of the Hernando roads, where I would stop to pick them up and move them out of the way, before someone ran them down with their cars.  I definitely don't miss the cockroachs or small scorpions that always managed to get into our Master bedroom.

Jesse,

Only on occasion when a hurricane blow's through and the rain is significant...we're out of a drought now...which is good...you just have to stay aware.

I know Maryland well, I used to live in Gettysburg, PA and worked in Maryland for years...love those Maryland crabs!

You'll get used to it... I just swept a little snake (12 inches) off my porch (j/k)...it was 6 inches...LOL...

Ann-Marie,

I moved here to get out of the snow and cold...No cockroaches or small scorpions in my home, however I know there are Palmetto bugs here that resemble a cockroach...if I saw one of them, I'd have a heart attach...thank goodness for pest control!

I'm in Northern California.  We don't have your storms, we just have fires.  I don't have family in your area, but I have been so worried about everyone there.  It seems never to stop for you in Florida and Louisiana, and this was a strange one, doubling back and getting you a second time!  You are in our prayers.

Karen, I'm in the Bonita Springs/Naples area and we are fine. Our lakes are nice and full and our grass is green. My best wishes for the folks that have too much water! Although, we are getting a lot of rain and it could get to the point of being too much ..... good luck!

Susan,

Thank you. However, I think the fires in California scare me more than the water...I float.

Fire on the other hand is really scary to me and I pray for you Californian's when you are surrounded by smoke...and fire!

Karen, Been thinking about you Floridians, so much water. I thought about them gators and snakes too. I remember seeing them gators eyes in the ditches all the way down from Orlando to watch a shuttle launch. I imagine they are out of the ditches by now!!! YIKES. I never saw any cochroaches or scorpions just those funny little lizards running up the outside of the vacation home where I stayed. Be safe and stay indoors. I've been in major floods in WA state and they are horrible.

NJ,

The small little lizzards...about 2 inches or 3 long the "get-go's" are fine...they eat bugs, so I don't care if they sneak in my house or not.  Cock roaches here are called Palmetto bugs...LOL...like there's a difference...I guess it makes them sound better...

I moved to Florida to get away from the snow, sleet, and rain in PA...then 5 year's ago when I decided to make Florida my home...I learned about hurricanes, snakes, alligators, floods, and a whole new realm of weather issues...

I would rather have this weather than the fires in California.

Karen, I hate the winters here in Ohio, we are in the "snow belt" I'm very glad it will be my LAST winter here!!! It seems everywhere you go there is one thing or another. Fires, floods, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, critters, bugs and so on. OMG when I was in Maui, I saw the hugest cochroaches ever!!! They called them B-52's. *lol*

I honestly don't know how you guys do it! That is just nuts, I can't imagine being held captive once or twice a year by animals and mother nature.
