Some Guys That Like A Taste of History

St. Charles County Mo has two days to take a visit to the past.  Today and tomorrow, Aug. 23rd and Aug. 24th, folks can take a trip to St. Charles County Smartt Airport.  While you are there you will airplanes from the WWII era.  While I was there today the first aircraft I saw was C-47, one workhorse of an aircraft and used many times after WWII.  You will see a B-25 and various other planes with a history.

The best way to get to Smartt Field, take Hwy. 94 north approximately 8 miles from hwy. 370 to Grafton Ferry Road and turn left and drive about 1 mile to the airport.  The hours are from 9am to 5pm

Don:  Oh, you're speaking my language!  I love history and my brother is an Air Force pilot who started getting the family involved in avionics history at a very early age!  This is right up my alley.

Wow, Liam would have loved that!  I took him to March Air Museum in California once and he was ecstatic.  We havetaken him several times to Patrick Air Force Base in Florida (Dad can get us on base) and he has a BLAST!

I love old aircraft especially military aircraft. My dad was the tail gunner in a B-29 and wow, was that gun turret ever small. I enjoyed the slide show, thanks.

I loved the B-25 but, could not get a clear pic of the tail turret.  You could tell that they almost had to lay prone to do the job.  The front gunner was surrounded by clear plexiglas not a very good thing.  But I can clearly remember the C-47 and the T-33.  It was a good day for me and I am glad I could make yours too my friend.

Don- I love history!!!  Thanks for sharing it with all of us. 

My grandfather was on a destroyer escort ship in the Navy in WWII- about 10 years ago, the whole family toured the "sister" ship of the one he was on.  It was a reality check to see the engine room where he worked, the bunks where they guys slept, and where they ate.  My grandfather was so proud to tell the people running the tour that he was on a similar escort and now his wife, daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughter (there was only 1 at the time!!) were getting to see it.  Thanks for taking me back to that wonderful day!!!
