Softball - One Week Later

For those who followed my softball blog you might have wondered what happened last week with our lose.  So I am feeling better today about talking about it.

We had the based loaded in the bottom of the last inning with 2 outs trailing 9-6.  Brandon Erickson was up and hit a line drive up the middle.  Al Wolfe was on 2nd base and had to dance a bit to not get hit by the ball.  I was on third and scored on the hit.

As I turn around I see the umpiring waving the play dead calling base runner interference on Al Wolfe.  Meaning that he got in the way (between a fielder and the ball) to mess up the fielders play on the ball.

Anyone who knows the rules understand that this call is something that is rarely needed to be called. It only happens when the runner goes out of there way to distract the fielder.  The umpire said Al interfered with the center field...again not possible to do when you are running from second base.

Al was just trying to get out of the way and he did a good job doing that.  So that play end our season.  We would have been down 9-7 with a chance to tie with the next batter. Because of the call our team and fans were in an uproar.

It ended in some of us getting kicked out of the complex.  I sent apologies and I think its all good now.

What I learned -

1. Don't swear at umpires.  If they don't know what they are doing they are not going to admit it so its not worth it.

2. Forgiveness- I forgave everyone involved.  I think thats came back.  Still need the league to not kick our team out of the league for next year.  But I think since Jesus taught forgiveness and this is a church league that they will also forgive.

3. Its only a game. Let it go and have fun!
