makeupSo, I'm getting ready to go out and went to put my make-up on and there's NONE left!  My husband being the awesome guy he is, volunteered to go to the local, nearby  'better' department store and pick me up some. This makeup is not the cheapest in the world .... it's about $40 a bottle (regular price)....I'm all out, I have a gift certificate so it's worth the price and not driving to the outlet mall to pick it up....or so I thought.

He goes to the cosmetic counter and tells the clerk 'I want one just like this'....same brand, same color, same size, etc.  Sales clerk goes away for a couple minutes and comes back and says - 'we don't have that shade'....Howard says 'so give me the closest shade you have to it'.....clerk says = 'can't do that, your wife will have to come in so we can match her up correctly!'

Now mind you, I purchased the last bottle of this makeup at the outlet mall for $10-$15 cheaper - there was no 'matching up' I just took in the old bottle and said give me something close to this.  They did. I've also ordered the make-up off e-bay (but only when I've got some to last me until the delivery arrives!)

This big "better" department store announced on Friday they are closing down thirteen stores across the country (one is the store my husband went to) because of the ECONOMY.....I'm thinking though it has nothing at all to do with the economy it has to do with the lack of customer service!

I'm not a happy camper, tomorrow I have to go out and get me a bottle (of make-up that is!!)....and guess where it won't be purchased from.

If I told my buyers they couldn't buy a house because they only saw a picture of it on the internet and they did not let me 'match them up' I'd be out of business too - and so would half the other Realtors in the world!

Mary, it sounds to me like they just didn't want to have to deal with it. How ludicrous is that? No wonder they're going out of business...they refuse to sell their products!

I wonder if they would have sold him "Secret" deodorant for ladies or if they would require you be there? Weird. You oughta call...get a freebie while you can!

Mary, the bummer here is that you have to go and purchase this without any makeup on.  Can you imagine us telling that to someone?

Mary, your husband is a doll!  And I'm not surprised that the department store chain is having to close stores.

Bad customer service Mary will eventually close any business. It happens in restaurants all the time. You do have a great husband for trying to help you out.

Mary - Living in Las Vegas is very difficult and the customer service is terrible. I don't mean to cut down Las Vegas because if you wnat some of the (best) customer service in the world, it come from the Hotel Casinos. But some of these small stores, etc, around town, you just want to reach over the counter and choke them.

I Really like your blog Mary! And I have used that comment with many stores, etc, where I get poor service. I say " If I was to treat my clients like I have been treated in this store, I would be broke! "

I have recently found Sophora ---I hope that is spelled right! They are the best place to by make up! The ladies working there really know their stuff and there is a great amount of selection to get exactly what you need! I went there with no make up on, and told them to hook me up! I was very pleased with the results...it is a bit pricy, but the make up lasts all day!

Bad business practices are often blamed on the economy.  Many businesses do OK in spite of themselves until the money tightens up!

Unfortunately that is the case it seems just about everywhere you go in Vegas these days.  I was at the hospital yesterday (with family) and it was like EVERYONE in the place, from the emergency room doctor all the way down to the person making hamurgers at the cafeteria was absolutely miserable with what they were doing.  People need to rememeber to love their jobs or find new ones!  The attitude that they project to their customers is not the image that most businesses, I would hope, like to portray.

Oh GEEZ!  Knowing the price of "good makeup", this story blew me away.  I had a number of friends work at department store cosmetic counters in college and they are paid an hourly rate plus commission.  That could have been their easiest sale all day...

But what a wonderful husband you have!

I get to echo everyone else, Mary - you do indeed some to have one wonderful husband!  As far as the poor customer service - it's definitely #1 on my list of pet peeves. Can't stand it - never will.  - Calie
