RAILFEST: The 10th annual Durango Railfest that started last Thursday attacted large crowd of railroad buffs including visitiors from Germany, Italy and England.
Two historic engines were here for the celebration. The restored Durango & Rio Grande Western engine No. 315 and the Galloping Goose No. 5, a GMC gasoline powered engine put in service during the Great Depression by the Rio Grande Southern Railroad when operating steam engines became too expensive. Engine No. 315 could be seen hauling passengers to Cascade. The restored engine appeared brand new.
In addition to Railfest, Saturday brought the Brewfest to Buckley Park in downtown Durango. Eleven breweries from all over Colorado were on hand dispersing their hand crafted products. What a weekend!
What's next? Can you feel the distant rumble? As Labor Day approaches the rumble will grow. The earth will vibrate as thousands, yes thousands, of Harley bikers converge on the Durango area for the rally. There's never a dull moment in this quiet mountain town.

This sounds great- water in the tap. But where is the water for the project coming from? There are two water sheds in this area- the Lemon reservior(Florida river) and the Vallecito reservior(Pine river) the organizer want to use the water out of the Vallecito and take it to the area under the Lemon reservior. This is agricultural water that is at stake.
I would say- check the map of the properties that have been excluded from this district- there are over 700 households that excluded their property- most of the people who haul water opted out. People bought cheap land knowing there was no water or the water was not good(too much selenium). These people can't afford 5mil + additional tax, and $5,000 tap fee and the pipe and installation to their house. The water will create additional growth which will require additional infrastructure and then additional taxes. The La Plata Archuleta Water District is for the developers and the home builders. What you moved to this area for- won't be here before long. Get the whole story before you say it is a good thing.
What are you doing to the agricultural community?
