Mirela, I don't have a photo at my fingertips but in our market you can buy a 5 bdrm 4 bath house on 1/2 acre with new construction 4,400 sqft for $400K. Not bad.

$400,000 in Toronto may get you a 2 bedroom condo, about 800-850 square feet, and with some luck, it may have a parking spot.  (You can probably buy slightly larger, by moving out of the downtown core.)

On my street, you can buy approx 1,300 square feet living space, on a 17x100 lot, semi-detached, most likely, renovated, and with some luck, it may have parking, and that will cost you about $450K-$550K.

Kara:  Thank you!  It's good to be back!  My vacation was PERFECT!!!

Sylvie:  Thank you for sharing!  I didn't realize Toronto was that expensive.  For $400,000 you can have a 4BR/3BA, 1,700 sq. ft. OCEANFRONT condo here.  ...And did I mention: the waters of the Atlantic are warm here during the summer?

Inland in Toms River (my home town) For $400k you can get a nice Age restricted 2 bedroom in a gated community or   a 2200-2400 square foot colonial 3-4 br, 2.5 baths.  but get close to the water and that may not even be the dirt.  On a lagoon, it may be a small home in need of a lot of work, and it would probably be a tear down (if you could find it) On open water (bay front or river front) entry level is probably triple that.  We have a pretty wide range in a diverse area.

Isn't it amazing? I once spent a few days at a friend's $600k beach apartment. It was 400 square feet and located in an alley two blocks from the beach. Right now that would buy a spacious elegant home in most cities.

Last Sunday (was it really only last Sunday?) Lisa and I drove from the south end of Maui to the Northern tip on the west side of the island. We started just south of Makena beach at an area where the beach was all lava rock and pretty rugged. Just across the street from the beack was a house on an acre. The lot was mostly bare except for a couple palm trees clinging to the lava, the house looked absolutely beat - weathered wood, porch about to collapse, roof tiles in disarray, looked like it had been abandoned for quite awhile with no maintenance for even longer. We're thinking - Jeez, maybe pick this place up for 500 - 750k, put a little into rehab and have a great vacation home that could also be rented out to defray the mortgage. What a sap. Looked the place up online - $8.1 million.  Hmmm, Myrtle Beach is looking pretty reasonable right now.

Can you believe this is the best picture the agent can take of one of the homes for sale in Asheville for exactly $400,000?

This is the first of 4 that popped up at exactly $1,000,000.

We have 3400 homes on the market in the Asheville (Buncombe County) area. 282 are over $1million.

The average asking price today is $473,000+

One Mee-lee-yun dollars:

Of course... there are the "bedroom communities" near Phoenix with even more to choose from. For instance... be my neighbor in Mesa for a cool million:

Here are a couple of recent million dollar sales and a couple of million dollar homes still on the market (couple of different neighbourhoods, within 10-15 minutes of downtown Toronto).

(some are small, semi-detached; whereas the detached are slightly further away).

Mirela,

The logo was created by me using Word Art in a Publishing program. It takes some experimenting and some time to get the size and style right, and it must be saved as a jpeg file so you can import it as an image. Mine is a fairly simple design, just like me.

It appears you are pretty savvy about using graphics, so you should have no problem doing something with your own software that looks engaging and bright, just like you look.

Chuck:  Who said anything about an ocean?  Anything close to the Atlantic will more closely resemble the Hamptons' prices...  The $ 400K home in the example is 15 minutes away from the lovely Atlantic.  I guess 15 minutes is not too shabby, so maybe you're right!

Wow....$400k will buy you a nice townhouse with a garage in the suburbs...closer in to town, you can get a small townhome or a condo.  Will have to try to find some pics to post....I like the Myrtle Beach home for 400k....

I think these are slightly out of the $400K range, but I thought you'd like to have a look ... they ranged between $3,000,000 and $16,000,000 = SOLD!

These properties are all around the same neighbourhood, approximately 10 minutes to downtown.

The architecture of some of these homes is amazing.
Some homes are brand new, built to look 'old'. There is lots of brick and stone work.

We also have tiny little 700 square foot, aluminum siding homes, that go for about $300,000. :)
There's something for everyone.

Well $400,000 buys you a 3/2 of about 1,500 square feet in an okay neighborhood in Miami, however, it buys you a 1,500 square foot condo with great water views in Miami Beach.

Oceanfront condos with direct ocean views in Miami Beach start at about $500-$600 per square foot and in South Beach start at approximately $800 per sf. to $2,000 per sf for the best.

This was so interesting Great idea for a post.  All my listings have visual tours. I did a post on top photo 999,900 home . 2 of these homes are not million dollar home but our market area isn't on the high end like a lot of the markets are.  You get a lot of bang for the buck..of course we don't have the  most poular spots in the country either.

We are just a country city in Western Pa

Mirela, Yes all brick on Old Road.  3/2 with a FROG and pool, 1 acre.  If you know of anyone coming to the area I know of a buy or two that aren't listed quite yet...  And, regretfully, there are a couple of foreclosures available on the water...  It's really not a bad time to buy, with the rates so low.  And, I hope you're right about readers contacting us.

This one sold for $310,000. 4 bedrooms 2.1 baths on a beautiful tree lined street between the Plaza & Brookside in Kansas City, Missouri. This home was built in 1910 and recently updated. Most homes in this area were built betweent the late 1800's - early 1900's although there are a few ranches and moderns built in the 30's - 60's.
