Wellington Florida- 2008 Notice of proposed property taxes and proposed non-ad valorem assessments are out now and you should have yours in your mailbox by now.

In the state of Florida we do not have income tax. That is of course one of the great things about living here not to mention the great beaches and weather, oh, did I mention, no snow?
You pay your property taxes in Florida in arrears. That means you live in your house for one year and then you pay your taxes for the year you lived in the house.
By law, the values on your proposed 2008 tax bill reflect the market on January 2008 so most of us will see a reduction in the value. Article VII, Section 4 of the Florida Constitution.
There is also a section for your benefits- your tax exemptions like
- your homestead,
- widower exemption,
- military exemption,
- disability exemption
- and agricultural exemptions.
There are two parts of your bill. One part is the part that you are assessed for the value of the property. And the other part is your non ad valorem taxes which are your sold waste bill and your ACME improvement District bill.
Your tax bill that is ad valorem includes the money that goes to the PB County, fire and rescue, library, public schools, city taxes, the Everglades restoration project, child services, health department, and Solid Waste Management fees.
Public meetings are held to discuss tax rates and budgets.
If you think there is a mistake on your proposed tax bill or your bill has a market value that is not correct than you may call the following numbers, the property tax appraiser:
You can also go to the Governmental Center on the 5th floor at 301 N Olive Ave. West Palm Beach Florida 33401.
The website is www.pbcgov.com/papa, or you can just click the PAPA Property Appraiser's Office right here.
The Realtor Association of the Palm Beaches is very active in lobbying and talking with your local political leaders about keeping your taxes low and reducing property taxes. We were able to get Palm Beach County to not raise their taxes and our collective voice was heard at the Wellington Village counsel.
Here are some of the outcomes of those meetings:

I had no idea that there is no state income tax in Florida ~ that fact plus "no snow" makes it seem like a win-win situation! Thanks for that information!
