My kids all wanted to help me write this article on their first day of school ..........

The Woodlands, Texas Schools are part of CISD, Conroe School District ... Powell Elementary in The Village Cochrans Crossing, Mitchell Intermediate in Alden Bridge and McCullough (the largest Jr High in Texas) located in Panther Creek ... First Day of School.

I had all of my children in private school until last year.  I chose a specific neighborhood in The Woodlands because of the Exemplary School Status!  I was nervous at first about the education that they would recieve and I have been overwhelmingly impressed with the teachers, the staff, the extra tutoring (and support) and the willingness to help my kids adjust to this new environment last year.  I felt that I was getting a private school education at a public school price!

Today was the first day back to school!  The parking lots were full of parents taking their kids this special day, the sidewalks were full of parents walking and biking their children for the first day and EVERYONE was soooo excited for this wonderful day!  (except for the Kindergarten parents .. there were quite a few tears from the parents - not the kids, in this section of the building!)

This year I had 3 kids going to 3 schools and I asked each of them to share their experience.

Powell Elementary:

'

This is Abby she is going into 3rd grade at Powell Elementary, in Cochrans Crossing and her first day is described as:

"I saw old friends, I met some new people, I learned how to write a spelling test, I didn't learn cursive, I like to buy cafeteria lunch, there are no cute boys in my class but there are cute boys in other classes and I had fun."

Powell Panthers:

The Kindergarten Parents:

The crosswalk guards in Cochrans Crossing help the children get to school safely .. Thank you!

Remember if you pass a School Bus with flashing lights and the STOP sign you WILL get a $1000 fine!

My son, going to Mitchell Intermediate, decided he was way to cool to go to school with mom so he went on the bus with his friends.

Here is his description of his first day at Mitchell, in Alden Bridge:

"I went inside the school, I went upstairs, I saw my dad and gave him a hug.  I went to my locker, put my backpack in it and then got some pencils.  Then I had to go back because I forgot some paper and then I went back in the class.  I know some kids.  I ate lunch with some of my friends from Powell Elementary.  After that we went outside and played soccer for recess.  Then we changed classes to something, I don't remember the name, and then we went to the next class, and I still don't remember the name.  Then we went to gym and after that we went to fine arts.  After that we went back to the class and went to Ms Higginbottoms class, then we did a math game.  We then went to Mr O'Kelly's class, sat down, did a paper, then we went to the board and wrote down if we took the bus, walked or went home in a car.  The bell rang and then we went home."

My daughter going into 8th grade at McCullough Jr High, in The Woodlands, TX described her day as:

"At first, school is just plain confusing. With nearly 2000 middleschoolers trying to find there way around a huge building, it gets overwhelming. After the rush of it all and everything starts to settle down, Mcc is super fun! The teachers there are amazing and they are extremely dedicated to there jobs. The only thing i would change about it is D lunch (There is A, B, C, and D lunches) Dlunch starts at about 1:15; Luckily i have A! After the first day at Mcc, you'll love it. I could not wate to go back to school!"

I really like the idea of getting your kids involved. This kind of first-hand experience will set your blog apart, as well as show that you're someone of strong family values -- both admirable qualities to look for in a real estate agent.

Pippa -

I am thinking of switching my kids to public school next year...your words were comforting.  It is such a huge decision.  Once we leave we won't be able to get back in as they teach a grade level above
