Sometimes Reading the Instructions Works...

After moving the grandfather clock from the Den to the foyer, 'ol Pop quit working. Well, being a typical male, this should be an easy fix I thought, so I fiddled with this, and that, and could not see why the clock would not run. Getting frustrated I thought that I would get back to it later or call a clock smith. Well, about 6 months later, I thought that I'd see what's wrong with Pop. Once again, I started tinkering not knowing what I was really doing, but after all I'm a male and we can fix anything, or so we think...

Not having too much success, and getting a little frustrated again, I by chance happened to glance down and see an instruction booklet.  H-m-m-m-m! Well maybe, just maybe, there may be a solution to my problem here. I know that this may sound insulting to most males as we don't need no stinking instructions. It's a male thing ya know...

Well I'll be dipped... AFTER reading the instructions, it seemed as if all that was wrong with Pop was that he had lost his beat. Has to be a clock thing now. After FOLLOWING the instructions, I made the necessary adjustments to restore the beat and 'ol Pop is just a tickin' and chimin' away just like ever before.

The moral of the story? DUUH!! Guys, sometimes it helps to read the instructions if you don't know what you are doin'. Just don't let your wife know. After all, we got to save face if you know what I mean...

At least you were able to get your's going again.  My husband decided to clean the inside of our large dinning room window so he brought in a old wooden step latter. Now I said to him this later is rotten so don't even try it. Or course he did as he steped on the first rung of the later it creaked so he went up one again a sound of wood cracking by this time he is half way up and yes all of the steps of the later break into so at this point he has no where to go but down and when he went he landed aganist the grandfather clock which caused the one of the large weights to fall and it went thru the bottom of the clock.  It does not work anymore and the motto of this is he should have followed my instructions and not climbed up the rotten later.  HaHaHa

Michael, instructions are good....I am a reverse engineering type. The problem is it ends up taking more time to not do it with the instruction booklet open than closed. Kind of like asking for directions when we are lost......DUH!

Michael back in the 70's there was a sliding door company that right at the top of the instruction booklet it said, "If all else fails, follow the instructions." (I kid you not:)

Instructions?  What the heck is that?  Just listening to that word hurts, it must be some sort of profanity.  There are 3 sets of 4 letters making 12 letters in all, that is like 3 times a four letter word.  No wonder it hurts so much to hear or read that word.  Let's not talk about it again, ok.  When all else fails call Fred (some guy none of us know but watched on TV as kids...he has a pet dinosaur, and is our great example)

Charles... I would believe it...

Gregory... Ok! No more profanity...

Funny story Michael. It is soooo darn embarrasing to have to resort to reading instructions.

Michael, as a girl married to a guy who hates to read or ask for instructions, I see him tinkering too. Glad you were able to get 'ol Pop up and running again.

Michael, your actions (both the reading of the directions, AND the ADMITTANCE of it) have damaged the reputation of men everywhere, and you should be ashamed! I refer you to rule #86 of the Male Handbook, which requires us to throw out the instruction manuals of all mechanical and/or electrical devices that we purchase, immediately upon delivery.  Instructions are as unnecessary as the little packet of silicon that came packaged with the product.

But then again, how would you know about Rule #86, since  I doubt you even read the handbook in the first place....and for that reason you are forgiven.

PS - To Evelyn...map reading is OK now, so long as we use a GPS...because if it plugs in, it no longer classifies as a map, but moves immediatley into the category of "Electronic Gadget", thereby nullifying any stigmatism of being a directional aide...

Believe it or not Michael.... it's my hubby reading the instructions. I'm apt to skip them and it bugs the daylights out of him.
