Call me an SEO tramp...or maybe smart!  Re-blog I love it for many reasons. I see opportunity with reblogging and lots of it.  Is reblogging a word? well not according to spell check! :)

You want to re-blog one of my posts..Thanks and go for it.  At first I didn't understand the whole thing but the term made sense.

I don't see the plagiarism factor...I don't see anything negative about it...maybe I just don't know or maybe I just don't care.

For me the good outweighs the bad...

Sometimes you have to take risks..to distinguish the differences

  • How bad can it be when another blogger chooses your article to be re-blogged and posted once again?
  • How bad can it be when another local agent re-blogs your posts..my link...my name and I got credit?
  • I love it and they felt is was news worthy enough for their subscribers to read...and you luck out with the additional exposure!
  • How bad can it be when your loan officer and yourself can do some joint online marketing, don't forget the rest of your business affiliates?
  • I see a little collaboration going on...teamwork...hey a great way show off..all of you.
  • How bad can it be when I got 3 google alerts in the same day for the same post?

Indexing, spiders, additional exposure, bookmarked, fed, additional subscribers, more readers..the possibilities are endless.

Are you digging it? Yeah Baby..... You Can Reblog mine anytime!

Good Points Midori!  You know I just recently found how useful it was to re-blog and become re-blogged, both are fine by me too! :)

11:36pm • #4

I am fairly new to this site and while I have always been full of opinions, blogging is pretty new to me.  I have posted a few blogs that I think are pretty good.  Like you, I would have no problem with them being re-blogged and would take it as a complement  For that matter it would be great if I knew they had even been read.  I have gotten a few comments, but none that really had much meat to them.  If anybody had the time I would really appreciate you taking a look at my blogs and maybe give me some comments on the content and style.

I can see where reblogging makes sense across industries (a real estate agent reblogging a lender's post) or geographic boundaries (a Las Vegas agent reblogging a post from Daytona). What I don't fully understand is why the entire post is re-posted instead of just writing our comments and then linking to the original author's blog. Seems to me that would give them a lot more benefits than reblogging.

11:46pm • #7

Good points to consider.  I've read a lot of concerns from those against it, not wanting their material reblogged(?) and it's good to see it in a positive light.

Midori, I had my first reblog recently and was very pleased that a Realtor felt it was worthwhile to add my information to his. This is what I think you were referring to as partnerships.

For the most part, I like re-blogging. There are certain times where I have turned off the feature, but that's rare. I also feel honored when someone else thought enough of my words to re-blog it.

I think if I reblog your stuff, as much as you think you are getting the credit, I will be percieved as the expert. I think the point that people are missing is the "perception", and the one to reblog is going to benefit more than the reblogee. I think it cheapens the whole system and weakens it from the core. Bad Idea.

"Its better to be first in the mind than first in the marketplace" (Ries and Trout). Don't forget that simple rule of marketing, as it applies to real estate as well!

I still don't see what the benefits are to me. I'll leave certain posts to be reblogged but I'm still not sold that it has any benefit.

I've created a blog "Just Real Estate" for the purpose of reblogging the best real estate related ActiveRain posts that I come across.  I think I reblogged one of you other posts a few days ago. It's my way of fulfilling my dream of being an ActiveRain feature post moderator :)

I agree.  I never understood the objections.  I'm going back and adding the permission on older blogs.  Took me about 3 seconds to see the benefit in syndicating my posts through ActiveRain.

This is simple syndication of our blogs.  Don't want something reBlogged?  Just uncheck the box.

Midori - So far, I have to agree with you.  I'm flattered and welcoming of folks reblogging my stuff.  I'm no SEO Guru or anything, but it would seem to benefit our own juice and exposure over the web.  Time will tell on how it all plays out.

I have never seen the negative side to this arguement.  Im in complete agreeance with you and everyone that has tried to promote this concept.  For once, people should stop looking a gift horse in the mouth.

7:39am • #25

Midori, thank you for the positive slant on this.  Our office is taking advantage of the Re-blog to just post great real estate deals within our own network.  Agents re-posting single property brochures/posts with interactive tours.  Can you imagine the google juice when several agents start posting featured sales in a variety of cities???

I think the re-blog will develop some new rules and/or restrictions.  For those thinking it has plagerism issues?  What's the beef.  If you or anybody provides the re-blog permission, then it should be free game.

Have a great year Midori.

I'm pretty new to all this, so when the re-blog issue came up I was really confused.  This post has helped me see the benefits........THANK YOU!

I love your blogs.  I am new to AR and you were the first blog i subscribed to.  I really loved your stroy about the lady in the restaurant.   I tried the same thing the next day at a Claim Jumper that I was having lunch at.  It was an older lady similar to the one in your story.  Not quite at dramatic of a situation but I know I made her day just by smiling!!!!!  Thanks for all of the stories!

So put me in the minority. I agree with Neal and Dennis. Personally if you are writing good content, the SEO will be there. To basically copy and paste another person's whole article with a "hey look what I found, so and so wrote this great article", I feel is demeaning to the whole concept of having a blog. I was flabbergasted to see a reblog as a featured article as a matter of fact. If you want to give credit for something someone great has written, how about including a link to that article and and their bio? But writing your own fresh content?

Call me old fashioned and stubborn. Wouldn't be the first time I've been called them :-)

Hi Midori! I was unsure of it in the begining. My first reblog was of a post Teresa Boardman did on loft photography. A day later, I did a post on the same subject but of the Lexington downtown lofts with my pictures. I had my first call on it last night from a prospective client.

Midori, All we had to do was give it some time and educate ourselves. Once we all (or most of us) recognize the value of reblogging it is going to be catching like wild fire. I have been allowing bloggers to reblog me from the day AR allowed the whole notion.

2:17pm • #42

I think the same way.  I don't see the harm or I don't care if someone wants to re-blog my stuff!  I guess if you are planning to publish and sell your work, you may want to think differently, but otherwise, what harm can it cause.

OK, I'm also among those who aren't willing to take a side on this matter just yet. It's great to hear everyone's personal opinion as to whether or not they are for re-blogging, but what I want to know first are the actual ramifications. The good, the bad and the ugly. Not hearsay. The facts.

Will re-blogging make me more or less money?

Will being re-blogged make me more or less money?

That's what it boils down to and I don't know the answer yet.

I would think that as long as the post gets reblogged unchanged with links and credit to the original writer, it would be a good thing.

Midori - This is an outstanding example of how re-blogging was probably intended to work.  I have seen other posts where it appears others just outright try to steal someone's work.  However, if you are giving proper credit, or networking with your counterparts in other professions - this is great. I personally just did a new blog, but the contents gave credit to the original two blogs that I pulled the information from.  (I also provided links back to the original blog posts, since they were not out there to be re-blogged - they were from many, many months ago.)
