Have you every thought about people who are not animal lovers. Is it just irony that in a time when some many house holds that require 2 incomes and don't have children have pets? Did you know that research has been don that shows for older people having a pet has shown to keep this population healthier psychologically by feeling needed and having something to love? To the point that many animal shelters and humane society programs provide food and animal services to financially challenged elderly who have animals?
Did you know that these organizations in many cases actually deliver the food to the elderly as a part of helping provide homes to unwanted animals? Before making that decision please take the time to read up on animals. Some tips on picking the right animal for your family can be found here http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=adopt_newdog .
Not all dogs are great for all environment's some need a lot or exercise , some are great with children while others are better with a single owner.
If you know of an elderly single person or couple that might benefit from a fury friend please check with your local animal shelter to see what s available. These are two populations that seek to be on the rise; if they can benefit from one another and live in harmony wouldn't that be a wonderful thing? If you live in or near Pierce County check out the website at http://thehumanesociety.org, or in King http://www.kingcounty.gov/animals
If you or someone you know has pets that they are not financially able to care for please see the coalition humane site. The objective of this program is to eliminate the birth of unwanted animals thru affordable spay and neuter services. http://www.psnp.org
If you or someone you know is thinking about getting a pet please encourage them to do 2 things 1st. spend time to research the pet and find out about the nature of the type of animal. They are not a toy that you just throw away when they become a lot of work, or are no longer a puppy. 2ndly there are a number of rescue sites where numerous people who did not do the 1st thing the research, have posted animals available for adoption to a happy home. Once they decide on a breed try googling the breed followed by rescue and there is a very high Likelihood that you will find a website that you can adopt a beautiful pet that someone else was not prepared to take care of
