The year was 1969 for those who were too young to remember.  No hero would walk away from an accident leaving a girl, Mary Jo Kopechne, to drown and then try cover it all up to protect his political career instead of sending some help to try to rescue her.  He was driving the car when it went over the bridge and plunged into the water. He swam to safety and left the passenger he had in the car he was driving to drown for those who do not know the story.   Watching this man stand before all those people and accept all that honor and glory as a hero made me sick to my stomach.  I hope most of the tears I saw in the eyes of the attendees at the DNC were for Mary Jo Kopechne and not for Ted Kennedy because he's no hero in my book.

Brenda - most people don't know about this, but, for many it doesn't matter. Nor does it matter how many homes and other properties his family has.

Ahhh the great Lion of Liberalism making his swan song. Ted just represents the end of a long and corrupt political dynasty that got it's start during prohibition and catapulted itself to power through back-room deals. That a person of his ilk could come to (supposedly) represent the working class of this country with his moneyed and checkered past is a tribute to how little voters actually pay attention and what brief memories they have. I'm sorry he has brain cancer but I'll not be sad to see him depart the political scene. Maybe then the family can get on with the bsiness of being a functional family without the press hounding them and making headlines of their every foible.

I didn't watch the parade last night, it would have made me sick to my stomach. I did hear Rush say something about how odd it was that they had some sort of water theme playing when he was on stage! ouch.

Thanks for reminding me Patrick. I did watch and I thought the same thing as Rush. How ironic that the DNC showed a several minute long video of their "Hero" Kennedy at the helm of his sailboat which by the way was the biggest sailboat I have ever seen.   I didn't know they made sailboats that big.  The long DNC video cast the senator as a modern mariner, relishing the sea with a large group of family members aboard the vessel having a grand ole Camelot time on the water.  I wonder what grief the Kopechne family must have felt if they had seen this spectacle of a video.  Kennedy's words to the audience right after the video played was "The Dream Lives On" but in reality "The Nightmare Lives On" to many.

I wonder if he could of outswam Mike Phelps that night. Good ole Ted. If he is one of the best the DNC can do, they have big troubles.

I don't understand this either. He should be in jail.

Unbiased- Laura Bush did not run and hide and leave a woman to die, real men dont act like Kennedy did that night.

It was a lot easier to hide and get a way with things years ago when you had money.   today, a lot more people would be gunning for him!
